Help!! What to do with the sat four free score reports?!

Hi, i am taking the June SAT and i understand that i will be given four free score reports. However, i am applying for 2015 fall entry so i have not made my application yet. Does that mean i will not be able to make use of the four free score reports because i have not started my application yet? i am really confused. Can somebody tell me more about the details of reporting scores to college? i cant seem to find the answer on the forum. Thanks in advance!!

You send it. The recipient colleges keep it on record, awaiting your eventual application. If you change your mind and decide not to apply to them, no action will be taken.

If you don’t know how your score will turn out, don’t send any. You’ll possibly be sending bad scores to schools that have no idea who you are yet.

If you’re a strong student, I would send them - maybe to some in-state/safety schools. We did this and based on good scores, D was invited to more targeted open house at one of her schools for honors type students.

Thank you for your answers!!

Sending them to potential safeties seems like the best approach. You’re less likely to mess up any applications there by having a poor score, yet you save a little money by having the score submitted for free.

I’d hesitate about sending any score blind to reach or dream schools, unless it’s one of those schools that require all test scores to be sent, might as well use the freebies on those as well, as you’re going to have to send them no matter what.

If you are prospective NMSF, send one to NMSC.

My D sent them to safety schools as well, knowing that if they were not good she could replace them with better scores later, but it saved us some money in the long run (she sent them to CSU Mentor, Alabama, Portland State & another OOS public but I am not sure which one, but one with some automatic scholarships)

Wow, I remember being asked this back in the late 70s when I took the SAT. I had NO IDEA beyond my state flagship and another state university what to put down. I think I ended up picking two state schools in another state where I had relatives. I think I had to do it when I took the test back then, so couldn’t even ask my parents.

Anyway… that is not your question. I think the suggestions above about sending to your safeties or schools with automatic scholarships for stats that seem within reach for you is a good one. We did use score choice for D2 pretty much exclusively so we could see the scores first. It cost a little more, but we watched the deadlines and waited until all her testing was done to send the scores that made sense to each school (so we paid once per school).

There is no issue sending them before applying, the colleges just hang onto them.

Safeties, NMSC, and schools that want all scores anyway are the top choices. If the score turn out to be good, you are all set for these. If it is bad, it would not hurt.
