Ok, so this year, I took alot of Science courses thinking that I would definitely go to medical school. However, I finally decided that I do not want to study what I hate! So eventhough I studied and care about school, I didn't manage to keep my grades up. Now that I decided to major in math, I was looking for an internship that is correlated with math (like finance, accounting, engineering, 3D technology etc...since I don't really know what I want to do yet) but most of them require your GPA! I know I'm not going to win the competition among students, so I've been looking for internships all day trying to find one that doesn't require GPA. Does anyone have any ideas? I've looked everywhere...companies & Organizations such as NSF & universities. Are there any firms hiring an intern who doesn't have Bachelor's degree or any professional skills? (such as Java, Programming etc) Thanks in advance!

GPA matters to a certain extent. There will be companies that will look past your GPA if you have indicators showing an aptitude of a certain level. GPA merely states A) how often you study B) How often you go to class and C) How many mistakes you make under pressure. Granted, GPA is a good indicator for intensive(corp fin) positions, it won’t necessarily make/break the deal with all firms. Is there a reason for your low GPA? Working? Something?

I couldn’t imagine spending 4 years in school just “getting by” without a valid reason as to why you struggled. Do you have high test scores? Do you go to a target? If so, you’re obviously a smart person that just needs a kick in the pants. Network and i’m sure you’ll find a suitable internship.

Tip, acquire a high GPA in an upcoming quarter and list the projected/previous GPA on your resume.

If all else fails, the government will take just about anyone =P. According to my econ professor, salaries start high but end up low at the high end.

yea i know that GPA shows off the academic aspect of the student and renown companies will definitely like it if you have the best grades as possible. but since i’m not even half way thru college i can definitely work my way up and show them the best that i can do. yea it’s just that companies like to see the overall GPA when you apply for the position and students need to have good grades all the way to have a great GPA. thanks anyway!

You need to be more specific. How bad is your GPA? There is a big difference between a 3.0 and a 2.0…and considering you’re not even halfway through college, I would ask what clubs/organizations you are in and what you have done in them. Basically we need a more in depth look at you stats so if you can post those up we can help you more.
