Im currently a Freshman and want to take French II over the summer. My school doesn’t offer it, but there is a college where I can take it that is partnered with my school. BUT the only problem is that the only grades that you get are your Midterm and Final exams, and as a result, no one has ever gotten above a “C”.
Is there a place (can also be online) where there are grades other than only the Midterm and Final grade like Homework, Projects, Quizzes, etc.? Thanks so much!!
It is important for you to know, that in many college classes even though there are opportunities for informal assessments along the way, the only formal assessments that count toward a final grade are a couple of big papers or midterms and final exams.
For a foreign language, you should get a lot of feedback during the term so that you know how well you are mastering the language, and so that you know what you need to work on. It might be worth your time to have a chat with the summer professor, and find out how you would get that feedback if you were to take this course.
There are colleges that offer summer programs to HS students. One of the best known programs is at Middlebury http://mmla.middlebury.edu/. Expensive, but supposed to be very good; you’ll learn french better than anyone else at your HS. Concordia has been running language camps since 1960. Also expensive.
You can find many others with an online search. You could also ask your teacher if she/he knows of any in your area.
