Help! Which college should I choose in the CSU System?

Hello!

I am an Environmental Studies Major.
I am applying to San Francisco State. Humboldt State. & Sonoma State.
I am a CC transfer student from SoCal, & I LOVE NorCal.
As of right now, my top two are SFSU & HSU. Sonoma is my backup school.
Here are my pros & cons:

SFSU- Pros: I love the city of SF!! Fewer classes I need to take to graduate. I want to intern at the California Academy of Science. I will never be bored, & I get to experience one of the greatest cities of the world.
Cons: Impacted!! & Expensive!! (I would have to live in Richmond with my fiance to even afford an apartment for 1000 per month.)

HSU- Pros: Beautiful campus. Known for their Environmental Programs. Cheaper living (like 700 per month for an apartment.)
Cons: More classes I need to take to graduate. I usually get bored pretty easily. Expensive to go back to SoCal to visit family every year.

I have researched so many sites reading hundreds of reviews from students. I don't want to make the wrong choice. My plan is to graduate with my B.A in Environmental Studies then probably go get my teaching credentials & Masters from the Bay Institute so I can become an environmental private school teacher :)

Any advice is much appreciative!

If you went to SFSU, how likely is it that you would be able to get that internship at the CA Academy of Science? I personally have no idea the answer to this question, but I would hate for you to go there banking on an internship which doesn’t materialize. You’re right, the Bay Area is very expensive. And yes, it is a great city and closer to home.

Humbolt is known for their great program and the cost of living is low. However, if you are bored very easily, I wonder if the environment would be too rural and slow to you.

The decision may come down to big city vs boondocks. Someone who loves trees and countryside would hate San Francisco, and someone who loves vibrant city life may go nuts at the slowness of Humboldt.

Your commuting costs from Richmond to SFSU will add up quickly. Talk to the SFSU housing office about closer options.

I hope you mean Richmond District as opposed to the City of Richmond in the East Bay.

In case you can’t get an internship with the Academy of Sciences, there are all kinds of environmental groups in the Bay Area you can get internships with. The problem with the latter is that they tend to be advocacy groups, instead of being focused on environmental science.
