HELP!!! Which is better?

Hi guys. I want to get my common app essay done in the next few days. I've been thinking of topics, and narrowed it down to two. Which do you think is better/tells more about me?

1.) (Prompt: place where you feel perfectly comfortable)
Write about being on a podium, giving speeches. How I overcame anxiety related to speaking in front of audiences and won an award while doing so.
(This topic has to do with my potential major of Poly Sci, as I will describe my experiences at a government camp where I had to give speeches).

2.) (Prompt: event that marker transition to adulthood)
Write about being president of service club and carrying out a fundraiser, raising money for a local boy with cancer. Tie this in with my curiosity for nature and discovery, particularly butterflies, as a young kid. Talk about how when I grew up, lost curiosity in life and belief in the improbable due to failures and strife. Talk about how the child inspired me when we met because, although he was experiencing hardship of disease, remained passionate about his dream and curious about life.

Also, feel free to give any suggestions at all. Thank you so much for any answers given.

I really like the second topic. It is so much more interesting, abstract, and insightful than the first one.

I think the second topic is more personal, so it could work out in your favor. The first topic sounds like it could get boring depending on how you plan to write.

Thanks guys… Bump! Any more opinions? I’ve started writing the second one but if anyone thinks first is better let me know

You could write a wonderful essay about each topic; you could also write a terrible essay about each topic. Topics are not as important as what you say and how you say it. In order for you to know which essay works best, you have to sit down and write a first draft on both topics. There isn’t a short-cut to avoid doing that.

I think the second topic will be harder to write about, as elements of your idea are a little overdone. I was immediately drawn to the first topic, though.

Honestly, it’s your call. If you’re an effective writer, either of these essays will be golden.

Thanks, that’s really helpful. I did almost finish the second one, but it took hours and hours; it was really difficult to write about. I think that was a mistake, and that the first one will come easier to me since it is something I am more passionate about and more personal.

If anyone would like to read to let me know what they think, let me know! I will PM

I think either essay would be good as long as it is written well. (But be careful with the second one as it might sound a little cliche)

I’ve read lots of articles that try to steer students away from prompt about your most comfortable place. However, I think your topic is one of the exceptions. See the tips at [Where Are You Perfectly Content? | Essay Hell](http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/2013/05/where-are-you-perfectly-content.html). Your topic satisfies both A and B for a successful essay. Your adulthood essay, although it would say a lot of positive things about you, may be too much. If you go for that one, you may need to focus it a bit more. I think both ideas are great and either will probably work out beautifully. It just depends on how you write it.
