I am currently a freshman in high school, and at my school we are forecasting for next year.
Here’s what I was thinking
10th grade schedule:
Class -----------------------------------------Difficulty (Out of 5)
AP Chemistry 5
AP Psychology 4
AP Computer Science Principles 3
Spanish III 2
Art 1 1
Biology 3
Precalc 3
Eng 10 2
Extracurriculars:
Some Research Institute (Hopefully if so, dropping robotics) → 10 hrs a week
FRC Robotics (Huge amount of time in a short period → 4 hours a week
Math/Sci Team → 7 hours a week
Making Drones → 3 hours (possibly less)
Artificial Intlelligence Club → 1.5 hours a week
Middle School Robotics Programming Mentor → 1.5 hours a week
Speech and Debate → 1.5 hours a week
Is there a reason your not doing a more traditional history class for 10th grade? I’m assuming you are in honors chemistry this year? It sounds like a very time consuming ec schedule - can you handle that many hours along with homework? Will this give you any time to just do something for fun?
You have 2 of the easier APs in your schedule in AP CSP and AP Psych. I don’t know what your 11 and 12 schedules look like but you might want to save the Psych one to balance out things later on. The only tough class in your sched is AP Chem. I might think of putting in APUSH instead of AP Psych.
Keep the Bio, if you intend to do AP Bio next year.
@Lion32 while psychology is a social studies class it is typically an elective that does not replace world history or us history for high school graduation so you might want to confirm that. If you have any specific colleges in mind you mind also want to check with them though I know it is early for you to have picked colleges.
Have you taken Chemistry Honors (or are you taking it)?
AP Psych is an elective. If you’re taking World History this year and US History junior year, I guess it’s an ok choice. AP Human Geo may be another choice.
AP Chem is likely to be double period, check.
Art can be very time consuming.
Is your school day 8 periods with lunch?
Looks good but don’t forget to think about how much you can take on while still keeping extracurriculars going. A lot of top tier schools want to see well rounded students, not just academic crazy ones. I interviewed for Vanderbilt today and the interviewer said he was glad I spent time doing things like community service, philanthropy, and sports instead of only using my time to study. Try not to stress too much and just focus on what is best for you. Best of luck
Looks good but also looks a little too strenuous. It’s good you’re balancing out the AP’s with other classes and also extracurricular. My opinion is that it is a 5 out of 5 considering that AP Chem is very time consuming but you also you also dedicate a lot of time to extracurricular. Just make sure you don’t overwork yourself and know your limits. Best of luck!
The schedule looks really good. Like many others stated, and it seems that you are aware of this being the case, but AP Chemistry is known to be pretty hard. The rest of your classes look great, though, and I hope you do well. I am currently in AP Psychology and Pre-Calc and took Spanish 3, so if you have any questions about those classes, feel free to ask.
