Hello!
I am currently a sophomore at high school. I need some help deciding which classes I should take as a junior.
My current schedule is as follows:
Pre-AP English 2
Pre-AP Chemistry
Pre-AP Pre Calculus
AP World History
AP Statistics
Pre-AP Spanish 3
Orchestra
I am maintaining mostly medium low A’s and high B’s currently.
The problem I have is my tentative junior schedule:
parentheses tell how many spaces this class takes with a max of 8
AP English Language and Composition (1)
AP US History (1)
AP Psychology (1)
Orchestra (2)
AP Chemistry (2)
AP Physics 1 (1)
I don’t know if I should take a math class junior year, considering I am already ahead of my peers in math and the lack of space. I was thinking about just taking AP Calculus senior year.
Is this a reasonable schedule or should I change something?
Thank you for your time!
Skipping a year of math is almost always a bad idea. You underestimate just how much you forget, and in a class where you need really solid algebra skills to do well, this could really hurt you in the future.
I would suggest dropping AP Physics until next year, as taking two AP sciences at the same time can be kind of strenuous. You could also consider dropping AP Psych if you really want to keep physics, because it honestly does’nt really seem to fit with the rest of your schedule to me, and unless you are taking it because you think it is really interesting, it might just seem like an “AP for the sake of AP” class to colleges, which isn’t good.
Take Physics senior year. See if you can take Calculus AB and/or Spanish 4.
