Some of my friend's younger siblings are asking questions about a few colleges that I'm not too familiar with except for some specific programs, so I'd like to hear what people have to say about the following colleges:

Illinois College
Berry College
Millikin University
Otterbein College
Wittenberg University
Mount Union College
Morehouse College
Mercer University
McDaniel College
Washington College
Hiram College
Goshen College

Berry and Mercer are both in Georgia. I don't know much about them, but by reputation alone, Berry is a decent school but is very rural/southern, and Mercer is an overpriced alternative for people who don't make it into Emory/UGA/GT.

Now, of course, I wouldn't take these reputations too seriously, because I have a few friends at each school and they all love where they ended up. I suggest your friend's siblings visit these schools, if possible, so they can decide if it's an environment they would fit into.

I've always known that CC focuses on the top tier usnews colleges and universities, but I did not really realize how much until now. It's no wonder many high school and transfer students are concerned with rank.

I looked at each schools website and was pleasantly surprised by Illinois College, Hiram College (CTCL), Wittenberg University, Washington College (CTCL), McDaniel College (CTCL), Morehouse College, and Mount Union College.

I'm also impressed at the variety of college choices we have as Americans. Now, if only more applicants would look at higher education options without too much reliance on usnews rankings and concentrate on fit instead, most of us would be less stressed.

Any other thoughts on the colleges mentioned in the original OP?

I suggest you go to the Parents Forum and search for a thread called "Brag about your lesser known schools" (or something similar).

If you don't find enough information about the schools you are researching, post a thread on the parent forum. Lots of knowledgeable posters there.
