Hi everyone,

My physics teacher (in addition to the standard forms that are required for requesting recommendations at my school) has asked me to write an essay on what I'd want admissions officers to know about me. Does anyone have any pointers or anything that could help?

Thank you!

I’d appreciate some insight on this!

My children’s high school has a multi-page “All About Me” form that each student fills out for the guidance counselors and teachers. The key reason is not that the teachers don’t know the students (our high school is 260 students) but that they want to make sure that the different recommendations tie in to an overall “package.” Meaning – what words or themes are you using to describe yourself in your application? What is your “package”? What is the genuine you? So the essay to your recommender doesn’t have to be perfectly written, it just has to be genuinely written. It sounds like your physics teacher wants to hear from you about how you are presenting yourself to your colleges. So just write about yourself. Don’t panic too much. This should be the same information you would be giving in an interview. Who are you? What are several words that your friends would use to describe you (ask them)? Three words that your teachers might use to describe you? (look through your report card notes for ideas). Good luck!
