Help with a vocal audition!

The college I’m auditioning for requires two contrasting pieces from the classical, traditional, sacred, or broadway styles. I have chosen my two songs with the help of my voice teacher; one is an Italian aria and the other is a German art song.
My problem is that they are both andante. How important is it that the songs be contrasting? Both songs show off my range and technique really well. I have other, slower songs that would contrast more, but they aren’t as challenging and don’t do as well showing off what I can do.
Thank you in advance!

They want two DIFFERENT style works. Make sure that they have different surface rhythms, different “feelings”. They can’t both be “sad” for instance, or both be very “upbeat”. They are not looking for the most difficult works, just something that you sing well, so the work doesn’t have to be the hardest one in your rep list- for that matter, neither has to be an aria, which you already know. Good luck!

Thank you!
