Does any one know which is more important to getting into Universities, Transferring or Graduating from a JC then applying?

Whether or not you graduate from a JC, you are still transferring to a 4 yr college. Are you asking which is the easiest to do?

Yes, well see currently im at a JC in Socal and Ive been there for about 2 yrs. I have a 3.26 GPA with 47 units accumulated, so I was wondering would it be better to Trans or Grad?

If you’re interested in UCs only, start a new post on the UC Transfers subforum as there are people there who are experienced in the CA system.

Okay thanks you’re amazing!!

From everything I have heard they don’t care about you graduating from the JC. If you wanted to graduate in your major, along with completing the transfer requirements you will have to take a lot of unnecessary classes. for example if you major in business, and want to transfer as business along with graduating from your JC as business then the jc major would require you to take a bunch of low level business classes which might not even transfer to the uc, but even if they do transfer they aren’t required so it’s kind of a waste. But yeah, if I were you and you plan on graduating from a UC just complete your transfer requirements. But if you really want an AA, your school should have a degree in something along the lines of university studies, or transfer studies, something like that, and you will just get an AA in that and not have to worry about taking extra classes.

Bingo, thats the answer I was looking for… Okay I have another one for you… Since I currently have 47 trans units, my academic counselor told me that my IGETC is almost completed; therefore, I should wait unitil I have 60 units then apply to all UC’s and Privates. Do you think thats a good Idea eventhough I would have to stay at a JC like 2 more semesters? This will also give me the opportunity to increase my GPA…

As long as you have 60 transferable units by the time you transfer you will be fine, you dont need them done by the time you apply. but also make sure that you have all the prereqs and all of that done also, because if you dont you wont have a good chance of being accepted. if waiting 2 more semesters allows you to complete all of your prereqs and raise your gpa then maybe its worth it. you might as well get as much as you can done now because its a lot cheaper. but if you go to a CCC and try to tag to all of the schools you can. its pretty much a guarantee if you do the stuff required. check out the link for more info.
just wanted to add, dont feel rushed to transfer, staying an extra year or 2 honestly isnt that big of a deal, then you can make sure when you do transfer you will be able to finish in 2 years.
