Help with assigning recommenders please!

I initially invited my counselor through the "assign recommenders" section for my colleges and she received the invitation. She filled my school report and attached her recommendation letter to it. However, now I checked, and in the "assign recommenders" section of my colleges there is only an invite link below "Teachers" (no option to select my prior invited recommender) so I tried inviting again my counselor. When I clicked invite, a message appeared: "You have already invited a counselor. You may either remove previously invited counselor or change this recommender to a different type".

Apparently, I cannot select my prior invited counselor in these other colleges' "assign recommender" section nor can I invite her again. Apparently I have to assign her under "Teachers" even though her recommendation letter is inside the school report, but the system will not let me because I already invited her (cannot select her name though).

How do I solve this problem? Help!

Thanks, Vulwark

You have already invited her once. Why do you need to do it again?

Have you added in teachers information, yet?

The common app is incredibly frustrating this year. One issue is that if you invite a recommender in a certain category (counselor, teacher, other), that particular ecommendation is stuck in that category and cannot be retrieved for use when a school asks for a rec from a different category.

In your case, the recommender has filled out the form for a counselor recommendation (the school report) which is a different form from a teacher rec form. The school report completed by your counselor can’t be used to fill teacher rec slots. It won’t go to waste, though. Chances are that every single one of your schools requires a counselor rec.

In addition, you may need one or two teacher recommendations completed on the teacher rec form. These should be from different people from the person who completed the counselor recommendation form for you. If you want to use this same recommender as a teacher recommender, you will need to reinvite and the teacher will need to complete the teacher rec form, which is a different form from what he/she has already done.

^ That is not the question the OP has. He can actually change the counselor recommender into teacher recommender if he wants. I think he is confused that he needs to invite the counselor each time for each school. Although there are invite link on each school under different categories, they all bring you to the same page. You just need to invite each recommender once in the CommonApp and then assign to different schools.

Generally, most schools want 2 diff teacher recs and ine counselor one.

Teachers know students differently than a counselor-student relationship. .

Also, the counselor would submit a more general school profile information and how do you compare regarding this. For that, it is universal for all schools. While the teachers’ recommendation requirement varies from school to school. Usually, you are safe to have 2 teacher recommenders unless there is special requirement from certain schools (such as teachers from specific subjects or school year). The idea is to have the better recommendations you can get for school applications. My D actually invited 4 teachers to write recommendations and assigned them to different schools depending on the requirement and the focus of each school. One of the schools she is applying even allow 4 teacher recommenders.

Thanks , I managed to resolve the problem. I just had to re-invite my counselor under a different title.
