Help with Cal Grant

So I applied for the Fafsa and Cal Grant when I was applying for college a few years back. I got awarded the Cal Grant A, but since I went to a community college it was on reserve (awarded after I transfer). I switched majors halfway, and had to retake a couple classes (lookin at you calc 2) so I’m a bit behind schedule (transferring after 3rd year instead of 2nd).

Anyway I got a letter saying that since I’m beginning my 3rd year at my CC and haven’t transferred yet, the Cal Grant award is going to expire unless I appeal. My CC has been pretty cheap so I don’t have a need for the Grant right now, but I will after I transfer.

So my question is if I let my Grant expire, can I still apply again when I transfer to a 4 year as a junior (fall 2016) or did I **** up badly and lose out on any aid I was going to get junior year?

Did the letter give any date? Did you check the status of any info in your webgrants4students account? Are you applying for transfer now for 2016? Be sure to file your FAFSA by the Mar 2 deadline, and inform your CC that your need grades submitted for Cal Grant

I think if it does expire, yes you can apply for a Cal Grant A Transfer entitlement grant if you meet the gpa requirements.

Start reading on p.42 Ch 6 and also Ch 8 and see if that helps

The Cal Grant A award does not offer assistance at a California Community College
(CCC). Community College students awarded a Cal Grant A award have their award
held in California Community College (CCC) Reserve status, and can be held in that
status for up to three years.

Yeah the letter said to fill out an application and mail it by the 30th of this month. I’m applying for transfer now, so I’ll be in uni next year. I didn’t know about the transfer entitlement so thanks for that! For now I think I’ll turn in the extension application and hope that switching majors was enough.
