Help with chances?

In state senior right now.
GPA: 3.0-3.1 out of 4.0 unweighted.
I know it's low, which is what worries me the most. It has progressed from last year on to the point that I'm mainly receiving A's with the occasional B in my honors/AP classes now.
Taking AP Chemistry as well as Calc AB this year, getting an A in Calc and a B in Chem. I want to do something in the Medical/Science field.
In the top 30% of graduating class.
SAT: 1810/2400; 1210/1600
Varsity Field Hockey all 4 years
Art National Honor Society for 1 year
Have done some community service and other extracurriculars but they're not really worth mentioning.

So yeah...chances? Umass is the one school I want to go to and I'm really worrying about everything. (Not saying offer condolence, just asking my odds really.)

Thank you. (:

What is your weighted GPA?

While your GPA is a little below average, remember that half of all the kids there had GPAs that were below the average, and they got in. And your SAT is a little above average. And the acceptance rate is over 65%. So I think you have a decent chance.

Weighted GPA 5.9749; average that umass accepts with that scale is 6.60
I’m not sure how the scale works.

1200 scale data: http://i55.■■■■■■■.com/11uvojm.png</a>

Class Apply Admit Enroll

^That’s how I stack up against people in my school who were admitted to umass last year.
Mainly focused on the blue area. Based on that, would my chances be any different? I feel like I’m right on the brink, although a good amount of people with the same gpa as myself were admitted with lower SAT scores.

Well, it looks like only one person with a (slightly) higher GPA was rejected (and they had a lower SAT), and only a few people with higher SATs were deferred (and they had lower GPAs), so I think you can feel pretty confident.

UMASS doesn’t look at unweighted GPAs, only weighted on a “5.0 scale.” If you took an AP class, add 1.0 to your typical unweighted GPA for that one class. If you took an honors class, add a 0.5. I would suggest recalculating for your real GPA that UMASS looks at.

Also don’t factor in your writing section of the SAT. UMASS does not look at this section AT ALL. Only include your reading and math scores. UMASS students typically present a 1170 out of 1600 on average.

Finally the 3.61 average GPA that UMASS has is weighted on a 5.0 scale.

i.e. I went to a tour, and all this information is straight from the admissions office.

Good luck, I’m sure from the scatterplot that regardless you have a low chance of being rejected.

How would you convert the weighted gpa out of a 9pt scale though?
I’m not too sure how it all works.

I’ve never seen a scale like that.

But it doesn’t matter, what’s important is that almost everyone at your school with similar or better stats got in, so I think it is pretty likely you will get in as well.

Here’s the breakdown of your GPA in terms of your classes.

A = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
C- = 1.7
ETC.

Calculate your GPA accordingly for each class and add the 1.0 or 0.5 points to any AP or Honors class. Average the classes in each semester. Then average your semesters out and tada.
