help with choice

Please help us with these choices. So far Providence and Merrimack. Let's assume(fingers crossed) she gets in to Holy Cross and Wheaton (Norton Mass) Also has been accepted at Umass Dartmouth and Stonehill. D is interested in majoring in Math, possibly secondary education, but not sure. Any input on any of these colleges will be greatly appreciated. We are going to an accepted students open house at Providence tommorrow. We have been back to Merrimack a couple times. They have offered her a partial merit scholarship, but we have not recv'd. total pkg yet. Umass Dartmouth also has offered her a partial scholarship and Providence has presented their pkg. She's open to all the schools just not sure on Umass.

debbym: In my humble opinion, if she is considering becoming a certified math teacher, my advice would be for her to select the college that best "fits" her in a wide variety of ways.....a college in which she'll feel comfortable, self-confident and flourish academically and socially.

I say this because the curriculum for math teacher certification is a prescribed on, whereby the State Ed. Dept. dictates what courses the student will be required to take. So, no matter which school she chooses, the curriculum with be virtually the same.

A major factor to consider: If she has an idea of which state(s) she may want to live in after graduation from college, be sure that the teacher certification will cover her for those states. You simply want to make sure that she won't have to jump through numerous hoops to become certified in the state in which she plans to live.

The only out of state school she is considering is Providence college.
