So I have a friend who took…
French his Freshman year. (French I)
and no language his Sophomore.
He signed up for Spanish for his Junior year. (Spanish I)
If he continues his french, he could graduate High School with 3 years of French while if he does Spanish he graduates with 2 years.
Most college recommend at least 3 years of a language while some do recommend 2.
Does the years of a language mean the level of the language or the amount of times you take a language?
For most colleges, it’s the level that counts.
The expectation is that it is the same language. So French I and Spanish I equal one year of each, not 2 years total.
When a coolege recommends at least 3 years of a foreign language, they are looking for 3 years with one language. Think about it, a college wants to see that a student is proficient in another language other than their native tongue, not that they took a jumbled array of foreign languages while in high school that didn’t lead to this.
Thanks that was very helpful
