Help with class rank and the common app

I have a little bit of a dilemma. My school has two ranks. The first one is just called rank and it includes all high school credit classes that I've ever taken. The other is called val/sal rank and it only includes high school credit classes from 9th-12th grade. As you would probably guess, the val/sal rank is used to determine the val and sal for our school.

I got a ton of B's in middle school, so my regular rank is 11 and my val/sal rank is 4. In my opinion, this is a huge difference, especially considering that I go to one of the top schools in the nation. The only issue is that my val/sal rank isn't reported on my transcript. If I report this rank in my common app, Harvard (and other schools) will think I'm lying. Is there any way or anywhere that I can report this rank? I really think it gives a better indication of my academic performance.

No matter what rank students write down on the Common App, colleges will use the rank that’s listed on your transcript (if one is provided by your high school). So, it’s best to not confuse Admissions and make them wonder if you are fibbing. List the rank as provided on your transcript, so everything is in sync.

FWIW: According to the Common Data Set, Harvard DOES NOT consider rank when evaluating applicants. See C7 data points: http://oir.harvard.edu/files/huoir/files/harvard_cds_2011-2012.pdf

Thank you for this info @gibby‌

I’m so relieved that Harvard doesn’t consider rank!
