Hello, I am a high school sophomore this year. I am currently enrolled in AP World History, AP Human Geography, Honors English, Algebra II with Trig, and Honors Chemistry. I am able to take multiple AP classes next year for my junior year. If I were to take Honors English, Pre-Calc, AP Gov, AP Bio, and AP Psychology for my advanced classes. Numerous classmates of mine are taking no study hall. I am a two-sport varsity athlete, and I take part in a monthly club as well, as well. To those who have advice on the AP classes that I plan to take, please let me know! I hope to fully take advantage of my academics during my high school career. Thank you in advance!
Do you have a Foreign Language? You may want to take Physics. You should have it sometime in HS. Don’t just take classes because they have AP in the name.
I have a foreign language as well (Spanish). I will focus on the content of the class more, rather than the name “AP”. Thank you for your help!
You need:
4 years of English preferably including AP Lang (+AP lit if you want to major in Humanities or social sciences)
4 years of history/including one from APUSH, apworld, AP euro + if feasible 1 from other social science APs (more than 1 if humanities/social science)
Math through precalculus or calculus. If precalculus reached junior year and you won’t/can’t take regular calc or calculus AB, AP stats can be used if you’re not aiming for stem. Calculus a must if ain’t for STEM.
One each from bio, chemistry, physics (can be regular, honors, or AP). If aiming for stem, AP chem and/or AP Bio or AP physics C. If not, APES is fine. Do not take 2 from AP Bio, AP chem, AP physics C together the same year.
Foreign language through level 3 (if stem) or 4 (if aiming for top 40 universities/lac) or AP (if humanities/social science).
One unit in art, art history, music…
AP Human Geography is a fluff class in our school. You already have a history class, so unless that is your major, take a study hall.
Why AP Bio as a junior? I would take Bio, Chem and then Physics as a junior and then an AP version of one of those as a senior.
Have you taken AP US History?
Honors Biology (freshman year), Honors Chemistry (sophomore year). Honors US History (freshman year), AP World (sophomore year). I was recommended for AP Biology, but I have a choice between AP Chem, AP Bio, AP Environmental Science, and AP Physics. I can choose between AP US History and AP Goverment for next year.
Take AP Physics 1 as a junior, and whatever you want as a senior, depending on your goals senior year.
If you want to study business, prelaw, humanities, social sciences, APUSH is a must-have. If STEM, Honors US History is ok.
