Help with classes

Im planning on taking these classes for stern. Is that all I need to take? Is it enough? Are they okay classes to take together in terms of course load??

Calc one
Writing the essay
Conversions of the west
world cultures

I'm also an incoming freshman, but, from other threads here and other information, it seems that it is inadvisible to take both Conversations of the West and World Cultures in the same term, because both are writing intensive. However, a friend of mine at Stern did and said that it wasn't all that bad, and he enjoyed the two courses.

And yeah, thats defenetly enough...its the basic courses everyone will take.

Good luck registering and see you in the fall.

Winston.

what other class should i take instead of Conversions of the west

If you don't have AP Credits from Science, Natural Science wouldn't be a bad idea. Anyone who has Science credits has an open spot freshman year, but can't take a lot of the business courses. If you have already taken AP Calc and expect a 4 or a 5 on the exam, then you can take Microeconomics at the same time as Calc 1. I myself have the science credits and plan on taking a seminar to fill the extra spot.

If you don't have the APs, then taking both might not be a bad idea, and you can get a head start on a business requirement term 2.

Winston.

Yeah, not such a good idea to take both at the same time. They're very reading/essay intensive, and almost the same.
Instead, I would recommend taking either microeconomics, or fulfilling your nat sci requirement.

kyang: Is microeconomics a fairly easy class that you would recommend taking fall semester (as opposed to in spring, after we have adapted to college life better)?

i took exactly that combination... except switch world cultures with computer science. That same semester, I maintained a 20 hr/week job... my mom had a knee surgery... my grandma found out she had/has stage iv lung cancer.... and I did more than fine (3.9).

You'll be okay.

PS. USE VIOLETFORUMS.COM!!!! :)

hmm... I'll be taking Calc II, but I don't know if I am making a right choice..

Micro is really easy. It was probably the easiest class I took first semester. The concepts are pretty straightforward, especially if you've taken micro before. It's all fairly intuitive, so I would recommend taking it first semester if you have the time.

ok *** i was trying to make my schedule today and they are giving me a hard time for calc 1...i didnt take the calc ap test because i didnt think it served any purpose since we cant place out. I have above a 90 in precalc and above an 80 in ap calc AB..and they want me to take precalc next year!!! I faxed them over my high school transcript and im waiitng to see if they will make an exception, has anybody else been in this situation, any advice? I really dont want to take precalc, i don't see any good coming from me backtracking..

Well... superman

It all depends on your AP Score..

They told me that I would have to wait until they receive the AP Score from Collegeboard.

so your gonna have to wait til july to register for calc?

so if you didn't do good in the calculus course in your high school (something in the C range)... and you didn't take the AP Calc test... is there anyway to not take precalc and just take Calc I?

if we are forced to take precal, when do we take calc? the spring semester?

has anyone been able to register for calc 1?

Unless you scored 750 or above on SAT Math, you won't be allowed.

What a stupid system.
35 on ACT math, and 800 on Math IIC doesn't count?

I am disgusted by the system.

merumerume where did you hear that from..ugh i am reallllllly hoping they make an exception..its absolutely ridiculous for me to take precalc

i agree merumerume.
damn my 720... if only i had gotten like one more question correct i wouldn't have to go through all of this b.s.

ppsgirl06 and merumerume..did you guys take ap calc?

i just signed up for calc I and ignored the warning they gave...
was it that you couldn't register for calc I at all?
