I had a discussion with a friend regarding college applications and the topic of race came up. He said, we could indicate that my daughter was 50% Hispanic. My initial thought was he was crazy. Obviously, he knew my wife grew up in Chile and she was a legal citizen at the time. She’s lived there since she was 2 until she immigrated to the US at 14. My wife and daughter have asian last names. My wife would identify herself as Korean Chilean. My daughter would say she’s Korean Japanese American. Thank you for your advice.
I’m confused by the question. Your daughters race is made up of her ancestry, not where she’s lived. She’s part Korean and Japanese. Unless you have ancestry that comes from Chile, she’s not Chilean. Your family’s Chilean side is a nationality, your race is made up of your ancestry.
Genetics determines race, not your former address.
