Help with college list for my son (Junior)

Background: GPA - 4.7/5.1, SAT I: CR - 600; Math - 730; W - 560.
Several Academic Excellence Awards in Soph and Junior class.

We live in Long Island area. Although we prefer NY college/university; will consider out-of-state if the PRICE is right!

Cost is a concern and we need to compromise between quality and cost.

Are there schools (anywhere in the US) that will cover 100 % cost?

You should calculate your expected family contribution and see if you agree that this is the amount you could pay. If you agree with that, you can apply to colleges that promise to meet the expenses beyond the expected family contribution.

The five service academies are free. How about the Marchant Marine academy in Kings Point NY? www.usmma.edu

College of the Ozarks in Missouri is free. Students work 15 hours per week. www.cofo.edu

Community colleges are very inexpensive. You can save a lot of money by going even one year to community college and then transferring.

Olin college of engineering is free. Also a great school if your son can get in. A LOT of schools meet all demonstrated need--but you're going to have to be able to contribute at least something.

Cooper Union in New York provides full tuition to all students.

Welcome to CollegeConfidential, LRSDAD. I recommend you visit the Parents Forum on this site and ask the same question there. There are some threads there that talk about full-ride schools and the parents who read and answer are very experienced and will give you good suggestions. They will want to know more about what your son is interested in and what he is involved in outside of academics but they can give you lots of good advice.

(PS: jimbob1225, Olin College of Engineering is TUITION-free, but room/board/etc. are not included in that. They have financial aid available towards those for students who qualify.)

Cooper Union, SUNYs, and maybe you could try to apply to Columbia,NYU,Hofstra,Fordham, etc.. and see if your son could get financial aid.

oh thanks for the info amistad. do you know how much all that stuff is then?

The costs for an Olin education are shown here:
http://www.olin.edu/admission/costs_fa.asp

Room/board/incidentals add up to around $15,000, and they do have need-based aid. See that page for details.
