It depends on which AP courses and which college courses.
For CSU frosh applicants’ GPA recalculation, a college course counts as two honors courses and two grades.

Currently she is taking 4AP’s - AP Calc AB, AP Chem, AP Physics, AP Lang and she signed up for 5 AP’s in HS Senior year- AP Cal BC, AP Bio, AP Lit, AP Gov, AP Env Science. If she goes to CC in senior year, she signed up for Molecular and Cell biology + Lab, Honors AP Gov ,and English Lit.
Would this student get merit at Case Western if she showed a lot of interest? The U of Rochester might also work, if she gets merit
I agree with all of the above except you have not asked the mom of the student:
Is she interested in
So you and the rest of the people would understand: LECOM is not one size fits all program. I would not recommend it to people who are not interested in DO mindset - treat the whole person (people who just want a foot in the door of medical program). And I am sure LECOM does not want those people either. Many people in general would consider DO school ONLY after they do not have stats after MCAT to get to MD school. A lot of people would tell you that any MD medical school is better than DO. There are very few people who genuinely want DO. My daughter is one that exception.
She is not interested in applying out.
Just look at Nova forums. Everyone is interested to get foot in the door and apply out. People just looking for safety. They are not interested in the program. They pretend to be interested…
See my comment to @thumper1.
@GreenD525 as you can see, there are many good suggestions here (and opinions). I’m sure your daughter will have good success with her college search.
I’m still waiting for @tsbna44 to comment about the specifics of the merit aid at Arizona State and University of Arizona…both could be good merit options for your daughter.
@WayOutWestMom can detail University of New Mexico and their auto merit awards.
Thank you so much. Really appreciate your encouragement and suggestions.
UNM offer several levels of merit.
There’s the Regent’s Scholarship which is a true 4 year free ride. but that requires a separate application and is competitively awarded, though @GreenD525 's daughter will probably be a top competitor. The Regent comes with other perks–like honors housing, specialized/individualized seminars, special tutors, early registration, special access to research programs, etc. Requires maintaining a 3.3 GPA to keep the scholarship.
APPLICATIONS due Dec 1.

Then there’s the Amigo Scholarship–auto-awarded with 3.5 GPA and 23ACT (1130 SAT) OR 3.0 GPA & 26 ACT (1240 SAT). Gives in-state tuition rates plus $200/year stipend.
LUE Plus --auto-awarded with 3.0 GPA OR 20 ACT (1030 SAT) give instate tuition rates.
UNM has a strong biology department (esp in evolutionary bio) and a med school on the main campus (next door to the Physics Bldg ) for easy access to shadowing and clinical volunteering.
Just to clarify, she wont be taking AP Classes if she attends her senior year in HS. She can either do College courses (max 15 credits) at CC. If she stays at HS she can take 5 more AP’s in senior year which would make it 10AP’s for her. Just wondering which route would be better for both UC’s and private universities.
For the UC’s, AP vs. CC classes will not make a difference since both would show rigor. For Privates, CC classes may not be transferable while AP classes may more likely to be given some credit.
As mentioned, if Medical school is in the future, she needs to be careful which CC classes she takes especially if they fulfill the Medical school requirements, she would then need to take upper division courses in those CC subject(s).
She should follow which path she prefers. UC’s do not ask for Mid-year transcripts so all courses are self-reported. Private schools will ask for Mid-year transcripts so she needs to make sure she continues to do well in either the AP or CC classes.
