Help with college transfer list - parent input welcome!

I'm transferring out of my current university. I'm attending a fairly 'prestigious' state school and paying out-of-state tuition - no financial aid. Which I now realize is really, really stupid. Things just aren't working out here - classes of over 100 are not for me, the social atmosphere isn't right, the city itself is worn and dirty. Basically the fit is all wrong, and I've stuck it out for a year (transferred from a CC before). I now know prestige does not matter if the fit isn't there.

I plan on taking the next year off to work and make sure I make the right decision for the second time around, and I'm a bit burned out academically.

When I return to undergrad, I would much rather attend a LAC with small classes. I enjoy being heavily involved on campus, being a part of a close-knit community, and actually being engaged in discussion in classes. I truly do love school, but big universities have ruined a bit of the fun. A school strong in sciences is a plus (I'm pre-med, chemistry major), and I'm open to women's schools. Thanks for your help!

Current List:

Whitman College
Franklin and Marshall
Rhodes College

Stats:

College GPA: 3.5
SAT: 2060
ACT: 30

How much will you actually be able to afford? What will be your college standing when you reapply (rising junior)?

I would be able to pay up to $30k out of pocket. Anything more than that would have to be covered by some sort of financial aid.

Technically I’d be a second-semester junior when I reapplied, but I understand that I’ll be spending in extra year in undergrad.
