Help with complete noob questions about SATII. Should I take SAT II's if I already took the AP exam?

Hi, I'm new on the whole sort of SAT subject tests thing and I have some really noob questions. So I've heard about SAT Subject tests but I just have no idea what they do and exactly why people take them. Are they like AP Exams and give college credit? Do people take them just for admission requirement purposes? Or are they just to bulk up your college resume?

For example, I just took the APUSH exam on Wednesday. After the test, my proctor told us we should think about taking the US History subject test since it'll still be fresh in our mind. But since I took the AP exam (and I feel I passed), what would be the point in taking the SAT subject test? The colleges I'm planning on applying to don't require SAT Subject Tests at all (UCB and UW); much less History. Should I still take the SAT II exam? What would be the point in doing so?

SAT II’s are separate subject tests that are specifically required for admissions to some (mostly very selective) colleges/universities. They are for admissions, generally rather than placing out of courses in college.

If you think you there’s any chance you might be interested in attending a college that requires SAT IIs for admission, you should definitely take the SAT II as well as the AP test. I would recommend taking the SAT II as close to the AP test as possible so that you can maximize the benefit of the studyingj/preparation you’ll be doing anyway for the AP test.

Good Luck!

@WellHello Thanks! This clears a lot up. :)

For APUSH, usually around 11% of students get a 5. For the US History SAT, usually 1-3% of students get an 800. The test format is kind of different, but it also allows for more differentiation among top students.
