Help with CSU to CSU transfer information?

So I applied to Cal Poly Pomona, Chico State and CSU Monterey Bay yesterday. I currently attend CSU Bakersfield and my cumulative GPA right now is a 2.61 because I failed two classes one with a F and the other with a D minus. I applied to the three CSUs yesterday for the program of Business Administration Concentration in Accounting and it’s impacted at Cal Poly Pomona and CSU Monterey Bay but not at Chico State. I applied with a Transferrable GPA of 3.00 because when I took out those two classes I had failed (Since Ds and Fs don’t transfer) also my cumulative gpa and transferable GPA is going to go up after this semester. But I was wondering if did anything wrong by applying with a 3.00 instead of a 2.61, since I know that D and F isn’t going to transfer. Did I do anything wrong? Also what are my chances of getting into these three schools? One last question as well, I went on assist.org and some of the classes I took weren’t there at all, others articulated over, and others said no articulation, do most credits transfer between CSUs usually? Thanks everyone, and I know @NCalRent is going to answer, so thanks in advance!

Most credits do transfer between CSUs. If you are re-taking the D/F classes this semester,(and you pass) your GPA will come up significantly. I’d suggest you contact the schools you applied to and discuss your record and the path forward. My guess is Monterrey will accept you, the others probably not (even with a 3.0). I’d suggest you also submit an ap to CSUEB or another non-impacted campus.

Good luck.

@NCalRent will CSU Monterey Bay be worth going to instead of CSU Bakersfield? Like will there be more opportunity or better education there? And I know CSUB’s Business School is AACSB accredited while CSU Monterey Bay is not. Does that make a difference?

a little - but you are in Monterrey rather than Bakersfield… honestly, i wouldn’t expect the quality of instruction and course content to be dramatically better at any of the schools you mentioned.

@NCalRent So will attending Monterrey give me less job opportunities rather than staying here at CSUB? Which do you recommend I do, go to Monterey if I get in, or stay here?

And does the AACSB accreditation matter?

for a Biz program, accreditation matters a little - especially if you want to attend an OOS grad school. Cal states are pretty well known so, from a job perspective, they are close to equal. Many would consider Monterrey a location upgrade to Bakersfield - but, if you plan to live/work in the Bakersfield area after college, you’ll get a better shot at local internships, etc staying put. If job prospects are your primary concern, drop a last minute ap into SF State and CSUEB. Both offer decent biz programs in absurdly hot employment markets (but, then there’s the cost of living, traffic and crowds…)

Everything is a trade off… nab a couple of acceptance letters, then figure it out…

@NCalRent I don’t plan on going to Grad school outside of California. I like the idea of going to Monterey Bay, I only have two concerns. One is getting a Accounting job after graduating Monterrey Bay since it isn’t AACSB accredited. Does the accreditation prevent me from getting a CPA license or getting employed after graduating from MB? That’s my only concern, since I plan on graduating with a bachelors passing the CPA exam and getting my remaining units out of 150 at a community college while working. As for a MBA that will be a long way down the line for me, like 4-6 years after I’ve been working. And I’ve lived in Bakersfield for 19 years and don’t want to stay here. So that’s my concern, will going to MB affect me not getting a CPA license because of the accreditation? And would I still have a good shot of getting jobs in that area after graduation? And would it matter if it was accredited or not if I were to get a MBA like 6 years after working? Thanks for putting up with my annoying questions

Accounting is a different animal - especially if you want to work for a big firm. As i review their web-site, Monterrey offers Acct as a concentration under their Biz program just like the other CSUs. They note the program is for students planning to sit for the CPA but, don’t say anything about 150 units - but, you really can’t earn a BS Accounting without it… You;ll need to ask someone in their business school how they handle that. A CC post BS isn’t a good plan for covering the base.Or, you could concentrate in Finance instead.

In the interim, I’d suggest you apply CSUEB before the deadline (TODAY) in case you learn MB won’t work for you.

That way you know you won’t be in Bakersfield next year.

Good luck.
