Help with deciding a school

I am currently trying to decide between attending GCU or Baylor for a BS in Computer Science w/ an emphasis on Game Design and Development. I have already been accepted into both schools and I just need to make a decision.

Money is not a factor, but these are the things that I am considering:

  • Baylor is a well-known school for computer science and has ABET accreditation. GCU’s CS program is very new, not established, and not accredited.
  • GCU is close to home, which means that I can still go to the same church and see my family nearly every weekend. Baylor is in Texas and I could only come back during long breaks
  • Baylor will help me much better in my future career. GCU will not be as beneficial.
  • GCU will allow me to possibly double major in Christian Studies w/ Youth Ministry emphasis or minor in Biblical Studies. Baylor only has MA programs for those subjects.
  • GCU will allow me to continue to interact with my current support network regularly. Baylor will make me create a new support network.

TLDR: GCU=Support while Baylor=Success

I don’t know how to make that decision. I find it very hard to connect with other people and I have feared leaving my church for a very long time. My local support network (family, friends, etc.) is literally how I have gotten through the past few years. However, I do want to be able to be set up for success later in life and a more established school will be more effective in that field. Baylor would help me find another church and allow me to make new friends while GCU will allow me to mostly stay at the same church and still retain many of my friends and local connections.

I want to know if, when applying for a job, the difference is great enough for it to matter on a resume, and if it does, will internships (such as one that I am currently partaking in) help to set me ahead of applicants of more distinguished schools?

Baylor sounds like the better choice. College is a good time to branch out and explore. You can always return to your hometown after college.

If you are interested in ministry, you’ll have to connect with people.
Baylor has a ministry guidance program and a religion major.

If you hate it, transfer to GCU. ABET isn’t that important for CS.
