Help with deciding, PLEASE!!

Calling all experts for weigh-in. Here's the list. D lives in NYC (grew up here), has great agent, one Broadway credit. Wants solid triple threat training but has been characterized by coaches as "not a typical chorus type". I'm concerned with academics. After all, this IS a college experience.

BoCo with prob nothing
Pace with scholarship
UArts with scholarship
Hartt School with scholarship

D in love with Boston and the BoCo hype (is it hype or not?). Would live in dorm anyway if she went to Pace. Not so much enthralled with UArts or Hartt in comparison.

Thoughts from those who know, esp SoozieVT. Thanks!

I know students at Hartt, BoCo and Pace, and all love their schools. But if your D is “not enthralled” with UArts or Hartt in comparison to BoCo and Pace, then maybe you should scratch those off. I currently live outside of Boston, grew up in NY, and used to live right outside Hartford for 5 years. I have to say that I would take Boston or NY before Hartford. (No offense to Hartford people). Boston is a great city for both music and theater, and BoCo’s reputation is well-deserved. However, be aware that she will not get a typical “college experience” at BoCo - it is a conservatory, and it does not have a traditional campus. Also, at BoCo, there are fewer opportunities for underclassmen to perform in MT productions on campus, simply b/c there are SO many kids competing for the roles. But the dance at BoCo is amazing, and your D will get a great education. That being said, Pace also has a great program, and encourage the students to audition for things and take roles. Since your D already has an agent and credits, she should be able to continue to do this. And, it’s in NYC…need I say more? Yes, your D grew up there, but really…it’s the best place in the world for MT (before anyone jumps down my throat, I know that the West End, Chicago, and Seattle have great theater, too. But NY is…NY!). And just remember, if she comes to Boston, she will have to deal with Red Sox Nation, which is not always fun for us New Yorkers. She has great choices, and it is such a personal decision…she should talk to students at BoCo and Pace and take it from there. Good luck, and congratulations!

My daughter decided against auditioning at BoCo after several friends left after their 1st semester wanting a true college experience. She should talk to current students at Hartt and Pace and remember it truly is a personal decision at the end of the day.My daughter is at Hartt and chose it’s BFA MT program over many others and is thrilled beyond belief to be a part of their close knit performing arts family.
