Hey everyone,

I'm down to two schools and I'd love some advice to help me choose. I'm probably going to study biochemistry and spanish, possibly international relations. It's almost guaranteed that I will be going to grad school after college.

LEHIGH:

Pros:
-Beautiful campus
-Many great programs
-Eckardt scholar
-Close to NYC and Philly
-Global citizenship program
-Strong alumni base

Cons:
-South Bethlehem is kind of unsafe
-Price depends on financial aid
-Huge party school with dominant greek life (I like to have fun but I'm not a stereotypical partier)
-Students have a reputation for being the wealthy, stuck-up type

GENESEO:

Pros:
-Great price
-94% med school admission rate
-Edgar fellow
-Good study abroad options
-A few of my friends are going there

Cons:
-Public school so many programs are being cut due to budget problems
-Buildings kind of run-down
-In the middle of nowhere

*Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Lehigh. Bethlehem is an amazing place.

Thanks for the advice :)

I’d say Lehigh–your pro/con list definitely leans that way–but you mentioned that finances are an issue. Care to elaborate?

Don’t know much about either, but I’d go with Lehigh. If programs are being cut at the other school, then why are you going there if you can’t take the classes you’re interested in?

For Geneseo I pay full-tuition minus a $2k scholarship so for this year it will cost $18k and the pice will be fairly consistent. My financial aid package for Lehigh this year puts it at $22k but I’m expecting to get less money next year and then more during my 3rd and 4th years when my sister goes to college. The price difference is probably around $15-20K which is definitely manageable but I’m not sure if I should just save the money for grad school. My dad also says he will buy a car for me with some of the extra money if I go to Geneseo.

If Lehigh is doable and you like it that much better, then go there. It looks like you can afford it. It’s really up to you and your preferences. Do you know kids going to the schools? Which ones seem to be more the kids you’ like to be like. What is the atmosphere you prefer. I would pick Lehigh for name recognition but atmosphere could easily trump it.
