Help With Deerfield Interview

For anybody that has interviewed at (or attends) Deerfield:
I am interviewing at Deerfield soon and it is the school i would like to enter the most based on what i've heard, seen, read about it. Is there anything during the interview that is a throw-off or is it just like any other interview.

(Yes i know that i need to visit the campus to determine if it's my #1 school. No need to reinforce that.)

I would say that the interview format at Deerfield is pretty much the standard one. They don't ask you any truly unusual questions and really just spend the time getting you to talk about yourself and your interests. The one oddity about their system is that they start out talking with the student for a half hour or so, and then the parent/s are invited in to "continue the conversation". So you end up in the room with the interviewer and your mom or dad (or both). And apparently DA employs this system specifically so they can see how parent and child interact.

Well... I remember doing one with her and then her taking my mom in. Yeah, that's about right. I didn't apply to DA though. I attend Choate now :)

Basically I thought it was in between Choate's and Andover's styles - Andover's was a total conversation, Choate's was a question-and-answer one.

Sorry, I'm kind of sick, can't type much.

Be sure to dress formally for this interview.

The campus is gorgeous, and especially appealing if you like the country. Deerfield and SPS are my favorites of the seven "Ten Schools" I've visited for the rural beauty of their campuses.

Bring good walking shoes so you can go for a long walk following your interview/tour. Good luck!

One thing that was a bit different about my daughter's Deerfield interview was that when the admissions counselor came to get her in the waiting room, she said to me, "We'll be talking privately for about 15 minutes and then we will come get you." So instead of walking around for awhile, I just sat there and drank coffee. Almost an hour later, my daughter comes out and tells me I need to come back with her. The AC said "I bet you are wondering what happened to us! I always say 15 minutes in case the interview is just not going anywhere. But we've had a great time talking in here."

Another difference with DA was that I never met alone with the AC. My daughter stayed in the room with us after her long interview. So it was more of a 3-way conversation at that point.

Otherwise, to the best of my daughter's recollection, the Deerfield interview was similar to other schools. I will say that the AC at Deerfield was the MOST charming, charismatic and outgoing of all the ACs we met. She radiated enthusiasm as well as intelligence, whereas the rest of the interviewers at the other schools daughter applied to either radiated just intelligence, or in one case, just enthusiasm.

Daughter was accepted at DA by the way.

MomtoanUndecided, I agree about the Deerfield interview. And the woman you're talking about just has to be CL. She truly is amazing and exudes warmth and such a caring thoughtfulness about her. Anyone who has her for an interview is lucky.

Yep. The school is very fortunate to have her.

Deerfield was pretty standard. I wasn't with my mum or dad, though, so I didn't have an interview with them.
