Help With Ec`s!

I
m planning to apply to the more selective~most selctive schools. But my ec
s SUCK!
(1)I play varsity tennis;been playing for about 6 yrs
(2)I do an internship in an area I`m planning to major in(about once a week)
(3) do volunteer work at an animal shelter about 6 hrs a month
(4)in a bio tutorial preparing for biology competition (by the Univ. of Toronto)
(5)I play 3 instruments; I did band in M.S, but I dont do it in h.s

My school is REALLY small and there aren
t very many organizations offred at my school. And sadly, I
m pretty shy so I don
t have leadership skills so its hard for me to organize sthing too… I don
t have an extra-ordianry talent that I can brag about either. I do play 3 instruments, I
ve played the piano for about 7 yrs and the clarinet for about 4, and the flute for about 1. I did do band in M.S, but never in H.S. I
ve never won any awards either…would this even qualify for a ec?Because I can
t really prove the the colleges that I CAN play 3 instruments…
My question is, for a student like me, do you have any ideas of other ec
s I can do that would look pretty impressive?Any organizations you know? I
m a junior right now, so I know it
s hard to show commitment, but any ideas would help me very much. Thnks to all who applied!

plz help, anybody!

Don't worry about it, you sound like a busy person. Just ace those classes, prep out and do well on your standardized tests, and find something you like to do. If you're interested in science, there are tons of different online science competitions that you could enter in. Check out Intel's, for example.

For your music, I wouldn't put M.S. band on your transcript. If you spend a substantial amount of time practicing those instruments, however, I'd definitely put that down, even if you haven't won any awards, as long as you enjoy it. Sounds like solid essay material also.

thanks for ur reply!it reassured me very much.
umm just one note,i do play varsity tennis but i havent been doing it for 6yrs. ive plalyed tennis for 6yrs in total. do u think this is still significant?
i plan to maybe apply for some ivies..do u still think these ec`s are good?i know they want leadership qualities..anything else impresesive i could do?

I agree your EC's are fine. Joining bunches of organizations (esp in jr year) does nothing for your resume. Lacking leadership is a bit of a problem, though. It doesn't matter if you've played 6 years or just on varsity. Being on varsity is enough. You are being way to ridiculous on these fine points.
