Help with enrollment questions

Hi everyone.

I am a 31 year old guy with no formal education, mainly due to political problems in my country in the 80s and my refugee status. But I have 10-year work experience as a travel agent and sales executive. Nonetheless my most passionate dream has been enrolling in (perhaps a Canadian) university and getting a degree one day. I have now finally earned almost enough to materialize that dream. But I have a few problems I need your help in finding a solution for:

  1. In order to enroll, the universities that I have looked up require 10th, 11th and 12th year high school degrees and score-cards. But since I already mentioned that I have no formal education, what I have in mind is to pass only 12th year high-school exams in my country of origin (math & science) in order to get the university enrollment. Is this possible, and if not what can I do to get accepted?
  2. I have saved about CAD $40,000. According to my calculations, this will last two years (tuition and living costs). I am planning to work part-time during my studies and save for the third year while there (I am looking for a 3 year degree). Is this financial plan feasible?

Thanks and have a good one.

Are you currently based in Canada? If so, these articles should set you on the right track for admission to Canadian universities.

Thanks for the links. But no, I’m not based in Canada or the US. I want to apply to Canada as an international student.

Some of the suggestions in those articles will still apply. For example, the easiest path may simply be to enroll in one of Canada’s open universities and then transfer to a university with selective admissions after you have built up an academic record.

Thanks for the replies ^:)^
