Hello everybody,
this year I'm a senior in high school. I've narrowed down what I want to go to college for but theres a few problems. I wasn't the best student I could be an now its coming back at me full force. I'm a B/C student and will be pushing for a 3.0 gpa by the end of the year. I had a long list of majors consisting of Geology, Archeology, Computer Science, Anthropology. Now I want to become a historian. So I think that I should go with a double major of Archeology and Anthropology, or should I go for a BA in a normal history degree? Another thing. I'm having trouble finding a college that offers these. I really don't want to go too far from home. I don't mind living on campus but would rather commute. Lets go with no further than 3 1/2 hours away from Buffalo. I'd prefer a small college but it seems like I'd have trouble getting into one. I don't mind the idea of going to a suny college but really don't want a community college. So what would be the best major/minor or double major for someone to become a historian? Or should I stick with the Archeology and become an archaeologist? Also what colleges would be good to go to for something like this? Thanks in advance to everyone that helps.

I’d look at SUNY schools that match your stats… But from looking at a map, the closest schools to you are UBuffalo, Buff State, Fredonia, Brockport, and Geneseo. You most likely will not have the stats for UBuffalo and Geneseo. Not sure about the others though. You’d probably have more options if you went farther away from home.

As far as major, you can major in pretty much anything you want, but you’d need to apply for grad school in history to become a historian. History is a very common major, and anthropology isn’t too rare. Archeology is not common.

Look at the reputations of the history department for schools you are considering; better ones are good because you’ll get a better education and will be more prepared for grad school should you go.
