Help with Fall Schedule

So I will be starting my college career pretty soon and I'm planning to major in Engineering. The classes I have scheduled are:

Chem 142
Psyc 101
Math 125

I thought this would be a pretty decent schedule for me at first but I've heard people say that I should not take any combination of Chemistry, CSE, Physics, or Math course unless I want my GPA to suffer. What should I expect/how hard is this schedule? Should I drop Chem 142 and opt for another class like English? I don't want to be lost going into my first quarter of college.

Thanks.

That is a perfectly doable schedule, and an excellent one for your first quarter working towards an engineering major. I wouldn’t change a thing. I wouldn’t recommend three math/science courses at the same time since they tend to be very time consuming, but in general having two of your three classes be math or science is okay so long as you mix in something different. For instance, your next quarter might look like this:

Chem 152
Math 126
Engl 131 / other gen ed class

And if you take a look at some sample schedules from the college of engineering’s website, you’ll see that what you’re taking is very typical of a freshman planning on engineering :)

I heard the same thing as you on taking combinations of the science/math courses. However, I think your schedule is fine. This is what I’ve heard about the classes FROM ADVISORS AND UPPER CLASSMEN during orientation/advising a month ago.

Psych 101 - really, really easy.
Math 125 - should be fine as long as you are comfortable with math 124 material. If you forgot all of derivatives, go back to Math 124
Chem 142 - not a ‘super easy’ class, but not a ‘hard’ class either. Just pay attention, talk to TAs/Prof a lot, you’ll be fine

Overall I think your schedule should be fine. During the first week of classes, if you feel like it’s going to be overwhelming and you can’t get a decent GPA, switch your classes. Most people start dropping/changing classes, so you should be able to get an ‘easier’ class.
