Need to know if the man I am married to now and claim my income tax with, but is NOT my daughter's father will they use his income even though he is NOT her father? when they ask for you to put your joint W2 in do I use his income? How does it work? Do they use the biological father's income and mine?

For the FAFSA, the income reported is that of the custodial HOUSEHOLD. Some CSS PROFILE schools also consider non-custodial parent income.

On FAFSA, your income/assets AND your current husband’s income/assets are included. It doesn’t matter that he’s the step-dad. He’s part of your household.

It doesn’t matter if thre was a pre-nup or not. His income/assets count.

For CSS Profile schools…some will ALSO require the income/assets of the bio dad and his new spouse.

Yes, your husband’s income/assets will be considered. The FAFSA computes an expected FAMILY contribution and your husband is a member of your family. The way you file your taxes has NO bearing on this. Even if you file married/filing separately, you will still need to include you husband’s income and assets.

This will be true for Profile schools as well…and some of them will also expect information from the non-custodial parent (and spouse if there is one).
