Hello all!
I am almost done with the first semester of my senior year and I am currently looking at attending Arizona State University or Northern Arizona University. I’ve been applying for scholarships for nearly six months with no luck in actually getting those scholarships. I am attempting to do Aerospace or Mechanical engineering but I need to find the funds in which to get there. My parents have a decent income but are not willing to provide assistance. This puts me in a huge pinch, but there must’ve been other seniors in my position before me. I am willing to take any advice (except for drawing out loans) I need all that I can take. If you could possibly help me it would be appreciated more than you could realize.
Best regards
What are your stats?
You’re doing this wrong. You’ve been applying to outside scholarships, which are hard to get, often for small amounts, and usually only for freshman year (then what???)
What are your stats?
You need to apply to the SCHOOLs that will give you large merit for stats.
Are you saying that yur parents won’t pay anything???
What is your home state?
What school could you commute to?
How much money do you need to come up with by yourself?
Are you possibly in the running for any scholarships from either of these two colleges? The best scholarships are awarded directly by the schools to qualified applicants.
Will your oarents contribute anything towards your college costs?
Are you a resident of Arizona?
Have you discussed post high school plans with your parents? What do,they want you to be doing? Do they know how much college costs?
Thank you for the replies, The total amount I will need to come up with per year is roughly $17,000.
The above dollar value is the total cost after my merit based scholarships based upon my GPA, Class rank, ACT and SAT scores.
My father is willing to help pay for things such as my clothing, food and gas as for the rest, I am on my own.
I am an Arizona resident.
I have discussed my plans with my father and he is aware of the costs, he wants me to go to college but he is pursuing his own passion and rasing my siblings. I am the eldest in a house of six, I am also a first generation student (white male) if that is of any help.
Thank you very much
Answer the questions above about test scores, GPA, etc; there may be schools with automatic scholarships for you, but you have to provide the info.
The deadlines for the best merit awards from many schools is application for admission due by December 1. Not much time left to get these done.
To the OP…you are looking for financial aid to cover your living costs (room and board) and part of your tuition. I’m not sure it’s realistic to think you will be able to come up,wit $17,000 a year in scholarships, for, the next four years, from outside sources.
Do you have any more affordable options…or is there any college to which you can commute?
is there a UA or ASU campus you can commute to if costs don’t work out?
The billable coats for attending Northern Arizona State are $21,000 (I’m not including transportation or personal, expenses…because those are not paid directly to,the university).
How much of that $21,000 do you current,y have covered in merit awards? In other words…how much aid are you expecting to receive?
WHAT are your test scores and GPA???
I think you and your family have to realize that it isn’t feasible to attend ASU or NAU for free.
As a student, you can take a reasonable amount of student loans at favorable terms in your name: Freshman year that is 5,500.
