Help with freshman schedule for an AEM Major

This is what I have planned so far:

1 CR/AEM 1101/Intro to AEM
3 CR/AEM 1200/Intro to Business Mngmt.
4 CR/MATH 1110/ Calc I
3 CR/DSOC 1101/Intro to Sociology
3 CR/AEM 2400/Marketing
3 CR/COMM 2010/ Oral Communication
1 CR/PE 1560/Basketball

Does anyone know of any "easy" classes that might substitue any of these choices, and still meet some of the CALS or AEM core requirements?

Is Marketing (w/Perosio), or Oral Comm. (w/Berggren) manageable courses?

Under the Student Center, there is no specific prof. assigned to Calc I, does this mean it's run by the TA's?

I've heard that Sociology is a notoriously easy class, but that it has recently gotten harder. Is this true?

Any other advice?

Thank you in advance.

generally, you won’t be able to get into oral comm as a freshman unless you’re a comm major since most people take it to fulfill the oral/writing req. idk you may get lucky though. lots of speeches/essays. i remember my roommate practicing a lot for them - but she was trying to switch majors (into comm) and so had to do a stellar job. it prob isn’t so hard if you’re just shooting for an A-ish.

i didn’t know perosio was teaching marketing… usually it’s mcloughlin. unless he’s on sabbatical, it should still be him. perosio teaches mkting plan development.

calc i is mainly run by TAs from what i hear from my friends who didn’t end up placing out of it with ap credit.

prof hirschl is so easy that even if the class did get “harder” it’s still super easy.

don’t forget your FWS.

Thanks. Anyone Else?

Hirschl is great, but he’s not teaching DSOC 1101 this semester–I think it’s Gonzales, who is also pretty awesome (though I’ve never had a class with her, just talked with her about thesis stuff).

mclaughlin IS on sabbatical this year and perosio will be taking marketing.

How is prof. Perosio?

I’m going to be an AEM as well and I thought I wouldn’t be allowed to take marketing because its #2400. I thought that meant it was for second year students for the most part. Could someone try and clear that up for me?

I hadn’t heard anything like that. What does your schedule look like so far?

i registered for AEM 2500 (environmental and resource economics) and i’m in CAS. i didn’t know 2500 would mean its for sophomores either?

you can take marketing as a freshman, it’s just that the track has most people taking it as sophomores - i think i knew like… 2 kids who took marketing in the fall freshman year - out of 95ish AEM freshmen in my year.

oh- okay, cool. seems like a bunch of AEM profs who teach large intro classes are on sabbatical this year… i love prof p - she’s a GREAT advisor, really personable, really helpful. haven’t taken a class with her yet. i’ve heard in mkting plan dev (a much smaller class) that she can favor the athletes/advisees (aka people she knows) a little, but it shouldn’t make any difference in a 300+ person lecture in which the grade structure is a lot more fixed and unbiased (aka only prelim/final grades count).

yea anyone can take marketing 2400 their first year. i regret taking it off my schedule first semester… i thought i would try to take it easy since i had a bunch of AP credits. i think there were like 5 kids out of 77 that took it last year.

Ok, so would you recommend taking more business related classes like marketing now as opposed to getting your science and other requirements out of the way? As of now I was just going to take microeconomics and a couple of introductory AEM classes and then fill up my schedule with science, writing, and math requirements.

I’m planning on getting all of my science and humanities requirements done freshman year and then having AEM courses the rest of the time.

Mine is going to be more half and half due to all the AP credit.

Ok, that makes more sense then. I’ve got my humanities done through AP’s, but I still need to do sciences and writing.

Is this all for the first semester?!
First, you need to think about your FWS. Second, most freshman don’t get into the COMM classes. Marketing is a good idea because it will ease the pressure during sophomore fall. DSOC 1101 is offered both semesters so consider taking some other Fall-only class.
Btw, marketing Fall 2010 is taught by Perosio.
Generally, freshman AEMers try to fulfill the college requirements (ie. bio, econ, etc.) If you have AP credits for them, then forget about them.
