Help with Freshman Schedule!!

I am university division business student, and I am looking to apply to Kelley after my freshman year. I have already taken W131 and got a B, and I am taking L202 right now and it seems that I will be receiving a B+. I am receiving credit for A.P U.S and plan on taking the A.P gov exam. I am also receiving credit for a computer applications class through Vincennes, although I am not sure how that will transfer. I am bilingual so I am hoping I can either test out of some classes or not have to take them.( I know international students are exempt from language coursed) I might take Math 118 and 119 at IUPUC during the summer. I know there are some prerequisites that must be taken care of before applying to Kelley and that my grades must be high so I am looking to make a smart schedule ( and to prepared as possible when I meet with advisors at orientation), so I can reach my goals.I also plan on majoring in Accounting, and am looking into the Information management co-major. So far I have come up with for the fall.
A100( I have heard the horror stories but I the terminology shouldn't be foreign to me as have taken Accounting in high school, and have experience with it through BPA.) Prereuiq for A 201 &202
Math 118 * If I don't end up taking it in the summer
Bus 104 ???
Bus-K 201 ???
After these two I am not sure which courses with what teachers would be the best to take to improve my chances, all I know is there are required courses, which include the Completion of:
o One course on the IU Bloomington campus from each of the following areas:
 Business Analysis (BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, BUS-L 201, ECON-E 201, ECON-E 202, BUS-K 201, or BUS-X 201)
 Mathematics (MATH-M 118, MATH-M 119 or ECON-E 370)
 Communication (BUS-C 104, BUS-C 204 or ENG-W 131)
o One additional course on the IU Bloomington campus in any of the areas above, for a total of four Kelley admissions courses
Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

So are all of your IU grades so far a solid B or higher?

How many credits will you have at the end of this semester? You say “help with Freshman Schedule”. How are you still a freshman in Fall 2013?

Did you start in the University Division in Fall 2012? If you did, then you probably will have enough credits to just apply after in the Fall 2013 semester to Kelley and be accepted or not based on the Fall 2013 grades and your previous coursework. You sure don’t want to take any more classes than you have to and thereby risk getting less than a solid B in one or more classes before applying to Kelley.

Without knowing the answer to any of the above questions, and since you have already taken W131, in the Fall I would just take the following classes at IUB.

K201
C104
Math M119
one easy grading non-business three-credit course OR A100 and an easy two credit course or three-credit course, in order to reach 12 credits for full-time student status.

Any classes you take at IU Columbus this summer will show up on your IU transcript as the actual grade you received, and not as pass/fail transfer credit like you would get from transferring a class from Ivy Tech. Are you sure you want to risk getting less than a solid B at IU Columbus in finite or calculus? If you get less than a solid B in finite or calculus at Columbus, your automatic acceptance to Kelley will no longer stand (all solid B’s or higher required for the guarantee). I might take finite at Ivy Tech Columbus where it should be easier than at IU Columbus and make sure to get an A or B, then transfer the credit to IU. And if I did not get an A or B from Ivy Tech Columbus, or had to withdraw during the term, then I just would not have the transcript sent to IU until after getting accepted to Kelley, so that the bad finite grade would not hurt acceptance chances. If you take calculus at IUB next Fall, you won’t need the finite credit to apply to Kelley anyway. If you get a C, C+, or B- in finite at Ivy Tech, you can just send that grade to IU in time to take I core after you have been accepted, as finite is required before you are allowed to take Icore.

Probably should have made it clear, I am a high school senior who is going to be in the university division freshman year , trying to plan ahead towards my college freshman year schedule. Thanks for the response the ivy tech columbus advice is interesting and I will look into it. If I get a c or B- in the summer I can just go ahead an take them again in the fall, can’t I, If i do go ahead and take classes at iupuc. Yes, 131 and 202 areor will be a b or higher after my senior year.

I don’t think they would give you two chances to get a solid B in calculus or finite. Bad grades in those classes at Columbus would not be worth the risk, in my opinion.

So your W131 and business law credits are from ACP? That is great.

Don’t take more classes than you need your first year, as each course you risk getting a bad grade. Take the easiest classes and course load you can. Take 12 credits each in fall and spring, then you will have 30 credits when you apply to Kelley.

I would take in Fall
K201
C104 – easy solid B or above
Math M119
one easy grading non-business three-credit course

Then you could take easy courses in Spring once you get the solid B’s. You have a great start on that, although I do not know if taking your W131 and L201 in ACP is technically the same as taking those courses on the Bloomington campus. My son took W131 ACP in high school, and his official transcript does show the class as being taken on the Bloomington campus, so that is good I think. You might look into that question with Kelley advisors to be certain.

Also, again, I don’t know if it is worth the risk of taking classes this summer at IU Columbus when you can take them with no risk (if you don’t report the grade until after acceptance) and much cheaper at Ivy Tech.

Also, A100 at IUPUI might be a good idea for you. You can take it in a short six week session and only going once a week. The class is very easy at IUPUI. Would be hard to get less than a solid B in A100 at IUPUI if you are a serious student. I recommend the Wednesday night section taught by Scot Black if you take A100 summer one session at IUPUI.

Yes Eng 131 and English literature/L202 are from ACP, and the grade is on my onestart as if I had taken it on campus
K201 3 Cr
A100 1 CR, I want to take this in the fall while accounting is as fresh as possible in memory, and it is a prerequisite for a 201, 202)
C-104 G.P.A booster 3 cr
hopefully no math course but math 119 3 cr
Another G.P.A booster 3 cr.
for 13 credit hours and it would fulfill the pre-kelley requirements
any other advice would be welcomed, such as teachers to avoid get or reccomended classes to take.

This site might help you out with instructors and grades
[Grade Distribution Reports: Office of the Registrar: Indiana University Bloomington](http://registrar.indiana.edu/gradedist/)

After some deliberation and talking with my parents I think I will take 118 at ivy tech and A 100 and IUPUI, while working this summer. However, Is it too late to get financial aid to do summer courses at ivy tech and iupui, as the rough price of the classes will be about 1,000, without the cost of gas factored in. I think it is to add these schools to the fafsa, also will I have to send my transcripts to these schools if i am only taking a course on their campus.

I don’t think you can get financial aid for a six-weeks summer session at IUPUI unless you take at least six credits that semester.
[Summer financial aid](http://www.iupuc.edu/financialaid/typesofaid/summer/)

According to Kelley admissions, “Retaking courses with grades below B does not remove the initial grade or the initial semester GPA from the admission selection process.” ---- So don’t plan to take a class until you are fully committed to earning at least a B.

You will have nine credits after high school. Thus you may consider applying to Kelley in Fall 2012. You need 26 credits to apply. You could do

Total credits
9 high school
1 IUPUI – A100
3 Ivy Tech Columbus or online if more convenient (Intro astronomy is easy “A” online)
13.5 at IUB in Fall 2013 (add BUS T-175, an easy Kelley required course to your 12 credits)
26.5 credits

Apply as late as possible in the Fall, when you are certain that all your classes will be solid B or above, as you are only allowed to apply one time. So be careful!!!

edit:
just noticed that you wrote you are now taking L202-- that is English Lit? Sorry, I thought you meant you were already taking business law (L201). So you will only have six credits after high school; you might look at taking six at Ivy Tech in the summer, then, to be on pace for 26.5 at the end of your Fall semester at IUB. It might be good to get the decision done early, in the Fall, if you have all solid B’s, than to risk a Spring class bringing your application down with less than a solid B. Much less stressful, I think.

Also, A100 is only a one-credit course, so taking A100 at IUPUI and M118 at Ivy Tech would be probably less than $700 tuition and fees, not one thousand dollars. Taking A100 at IUPUI and six credits at Ivy Tech would be about one thousand dollars.

Also, it will be six round trips to Indy for A100. Not that bad. You won’t have to be there for study groups or anything like that. It will be over before you know it, and much easier than taking it at IU.

First of all thanks for the help BThomp1 you have been a huge help, I will certaintly have to tools to fight the good fight!!!
Secondly, I think I will have 6 credits for the ACP English classes plus 6 credits from A.P credits in A.P Gov and A.P U.S, which may fulfill two of my gen ed requirements.
,…so 12 credits from highschool, I believe that is correct, and maybe some credit through vincennes for computer applications, but I am not counting on it.
Do have an idea of how I would enroll in these courses so far I have submitted an app for admissions at both schools? I have not being able to find an app for a visiting student who has yet to attend a class on their home campus

You will probably have to go to Ivy Tech Columbus to register:

4475 Central Avenue
Columbus, IN 47203-1868
Toll Free: 800-922-4838 ext. 5152
Phone: 812-374-5152
Fax: 812-372-0568
Regular Hours
Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Give them a call to confirm. If you are taking a math class, you will probably have to test into the class in their computer lab, as finite and calculus have prerequisites. W131 is a prerequisite for a lot of the liberal arts classes (including microecon and macroecon), so you may have to have your IU transcript for this showing that you have the equivalent of their English Composition class.

For IUPUI, you will have to fill out a $55 application fee. I could not find a link to the application. Technically, you are not a transfer student from IU, since you have not yet attended the Bloomington campus. My son did the application online and paid the fee in 2009 (he had not attended IUB yet, but had taken W131 in high school) and his status on his IU transcript for the summer he took A100 is “University Div Ugrd Nondeg”. So you are some kind of “non-degree” student probably, but the website was no help in finding out exactly. You should just call IUPUI office of admissions and ask them, (317) 274-4591. Make sure to tell them that you have not attended IUB yet, so, technically, you are not an “intercampus transfer” within the IU system. Again, I could not find the right link, but maybe they can direct you there.
