Help with getting a high school research internship

Hi, I'm a sophomore in high school who's looking for a research internship in astrophysics/theoretical physics, and I'm a little confused about how to go about the process.
1) email professors with a resume/cover letter stating interest
-I've taken AP Calc and honors science classes as well as science clubs at my school but I don't know if that's a strong enough background to be qualified to ask around the good colleges in the area (uchicago, uiuc, northwestern).

Basically, if they reject me, where else should I be looking to find someone to intern with?

Also, if anyone has any other tips or experience on getting a high school research internship, I'd appreciate it!

Start with a resume. And then email tons of people.
