I might be sending the form in late because Im still waiting on schools that deferred me so maybe like Mid-April...

What I am
Freshmen
Engineering College
Asian (Thai)
Mid Range on the Social scale
Male

What I want:
Coed if possible, not a must though
Not a dorm with like 80% asian, but not like 0%... so some...
Dorm that has a good location for who I am and what I will be doing, like not too far from where I will be going most of the time
Not one of those dorms where its always loud, noisy, and obnoxious
Not one of those where people are always studying and its boring as hell...
One of those where there are good and cool people... the middle way you know?
How IRS? My friend will probably be there, is it good? fits the things above? What are some other that fits the criteria that may be close to IRS?

Thanks... I realize that it might be tough as I am doing this late...

tennis - but i heard ISR will be full early... Im gonna submit my form on Apirl 15 by the earliest... thats gonna be hard.... (still waiting for michigan)

also, I heard that its kinda nerdy and boring?

I know!!! I really wanted to apply for housing etc ASAP but Im still waiting on michigan (damn April 15th!!) Thing is if I get in really want to go so must wait...

Non-freshmen are typically prioritized for spaces in ISR. Also, I'd expect by now that most of the other spaces would have been filled up by freshmen who applied earlier.

Apply to either Allen or any of the 6 dorms in the 6-pack (they're all pretty much the same).

Allen: Close to CRCE Rec Center, PAR tennis courts, little lake next to it, McKinley Health Center, one of the closest dorms to the quad. Hippies and art-heads live here.

Six-Pack: Close to IMPE Rec Center (nicest rec center on campus), Intramural Playing Fields, Atkins tennis courts, however, not that close to the quad. Athletes, frat boys, and sorority girls live here.

If I were you, I would avoid PAR & FAR at all costs.

There are a multitude of reasons why FAR/PAR are bad.
- Sense of isolation from the rest of campus
- Distance-wise, I think FAR is farthest dorm from quad (bad thing)
- Daily Illini (school paper) ranked FAR dining hall as hands-down worst on campus. The food and management is terrible.
- Only FAR has a dining hall. PAR is the only main dorm on campus to not have a dining hall, due to construction. Also, as far as I can tell, construction on the new dining hall looks like it'll be wrapping up behind schedule.
- Constant Construction on PAR is both an eyesore and an aural nightmare
- New freshmen typically get "stuck" in PAR/FAR, in other words, they applied too late to other dorms or did not research adequately.
- High density of non-caucasian cliques. Obviously, you may or may not consider this a bad thing.
- No gen ed. buildings anywhere near PAR/FAR. Closest school buildings include the Vet/Med Labs, Meat Research Lab, and Plant Science Labs.
- Landscape arguably least scenic on campus; construction exacerbates this.

I could go on and on. Sure, there are a few benefits to PAR/FAR, but I lived in PAR, and my general impression has been a negative one.

Well, I should probably also list the positives of FAR/PAR. I mean, it certainly isn't a terrible place to live, even if many of the people you meet will transfer before the end of the semester.

Good things:
- FAR/PAR get excellent bus service (21, 22, 80 all come to FAR/PAR at frequent intervals)
- Close to the PAR tennis complex and Illini Grove, a small woods with recreational landscaping
- PAR has a "late nite" cafe open until midnight
- FAR has A/C in rooms
- PAR and FAR both have decent libraries underground
- Walking time to quad is about 14 minutes, Walking time to Illini Union is about 20 minutes
- Atmosphere is fairly quiet and pleasant

I just wanted to give a fair evaluation of FAR/PAR; not simply to rag on them. Obviously, if I could change where I lived my freshman year, I would. However, there are people who love living in FAR/PAR, and even come back the next year. I hope this helped.

I'm enrolled in the Division of General Studies, does anyone know where it is located? and which dorm is the closest?
I'm considering Allen, Barton, and Weston. any comments on these three? I kinda want to get my homework done in dorm, but don't want to walk around and only find utterly quiet.
I hope these won't fill up too quickly...I'm still thinking about U. of Rochester.
by the way, if anyone knows anything about U. of R pls tell me.
thanks
