I am a prospective FPF student. Recently my potential roommate received his housing assignment (he is a Fall admit) and got his first choice. I heard that roommate disclosures are only in August (is this true?), and my housing will only be revealed late July. When do I start searching for alternate housing? Can I make plans for alternate housing and cancel it if I end up getting a dorm? Thanks for the help!

Did you make a deposit with Cal or with the private dorms or both? Don’t they guarantee a space when you make a deposit by a certain time? If not, don’t panic. It is hard, but not impossible to find housing at the last minute.

I made a deposit with Cal but not with any private dorms, or at least i don’t think so. Uhhh what are the private dorms? Like Cal Rentals or something? Should I search for an apartment now?

Apply for a theme program!
Theme programs do not give a damn about what is your class status

yea i am, but should i also apply for private dorms right now, or do people wait until july to do that?

Last year, I didn’t sign up for my private housing until mid-July and there was still plenty of room. So you are fine. Although, in some cases you may be able to get a better room if you sign up earlier, most students don’t start looking until early July when university offers come out.

If all else fails, look into the co-ops.

I’m doing telefraph commmons! Half the rooms will be brand new next year (if you want to pay for it), it’s wayy cheaper than campus housing (their biggest brand new single is cheaper than the cheapest double on campus), it’s right next to Unit 3 (best cafeteria from what I hear), it’s on telegraph avenue, every floor has a kitchen (which will save you alot of money while making you healthier assuming you use it), every room comes with a mini fridge, there’s free internet (wireless as well in the common areas).

In case you didn’t notice, I’m really stoked about Telegraph Commons, but I can’t find anyone else who’s living there next year haha.

EDIT: Oh I’m FPF as well by the way :)

how do you go about getting a dorm at the telegraph commons?

I was in FPF last year as well and housing assignments go by lottery number. When they become available, call campus housing and see what your number is. even if your chances look slim (a number above 225 ish) wait it out anyway. Most people get offered housing at the end and even if you’re not, its never too late to get alternative housing because places like westminster house and telegraph commons usually always have room. being in campus dorms feels much better, trust me. i was in private dorm housing my first semester and moved into dorms second semester and there was a huge difference in the social environment, college experience, etc.

I think their website is telegraphcommons.com (if not just google it). Go to their contacts page and send them an e-mail
