Help with Housing

I've already sent in my enrollment deposit, now I must choose a house. I was wondering if any current students could help me out. I want a place that's at least semi-open to weed, if that exists. It's not like I plan on smoking 24/7, but when I went on the admitted student's day, the people I stayed with talked about this kid who smoked a lot and should have been kicked out of housing. I'd like to be close-ish to campus and private bathrooms are a plus. Really, I mostly want clean bathrooms. A kitchen that I could use on a semi-frequent basis (if I have time, considering the workload) is also something I'd like. If anyone could help me out a bit, I'd appreciate it.

Weed-friendliness: Stony (Stoner) Island has a reputation for being friendly, but I don’t know much about the other dorms. I’d imagine some of the other farther dorms could work.

Private Bathrooms: Blackstone (private between 2 people), Stony, Max (suite between 4 people). not sure about Maclean

All the dorms have kitchens; some are more active than others, usually by house.

All dorms are going to have a kitchen. For non-communal bathrooms: blackstone, stony, broadview, and max.

Smoking is NOT allowed in the dorms – period. They don’t really care what you do outside of the dorms themselves (at other apartments, etc.). Some RAs / RHs are more relaxed on this policy than others, but they change year to year (especially with the RAs) and it only takes one student to complain to housing for you to get into deep trouble. I wouldn’t suggest it.

Ok, forget the smoking then, totally not a requirement at all. Can someone tell me a little about the social atmosphere at these dorms? What’s Stony Island like? I didn’t hear anything about it during the admitted student’s day. How about Black Stone? Max? Broadview? Any information on the other dorms is definitely welcome. Also, how bad is it to live far from campus? Does it get in the way or is it a non-issue?

I live in South and I have no problems with smoking. My friends in Stony have had trouble though. I’m not sure how careful they were being though. I live on a floor with no RHs and RAs so I have it pretty good. My friend in BJ apparently has a really nice smoking situation if you are so inclined.
