Hi all, I have a little dilemma here.
I went to this site yesterday: http://pathways2.ucop.edu/doorways/list/ and did a search for approved honors courses for my school - but apparently certain AP classes aren’t given extra credit (for some reason, the school designates AP Calculus BC as “non-honors”, as well as precalculus honors.) I checked other schools in my immediate district and they DO grant extra honors points for the same subjects listed above.
The question is, do I still receive extra points even though my school doesn’t designate them as honors courses, even though other schools do?
EDIT: Do I still receive extra points for taking honors precal in the 10th grade? seeing as it’s typically 11-12th grade content. Currently a senior, BTW

great questions...it's my understanding that each school must write up its class content, etc., and send it in to UC for honors designation. First, I' check with our GC an inquire. (But, please be aware, that our GC was flat out wrong in her determination of the UC credit.) Perhaps there is an admin error on the pathways website that your GC could get corrected.

I would suggest you e-mail the contact name at UCOP who could probably answer your question more thoroughly, or, just e-mail the adcom at whatever school to which you think you might be applying.

btw: in our school district, Honors Pre-Calc (no matter when taken) and AP Calc both count for the extra grade point. Prior to 2002, Honors AlgII used to receive an extra grade point only if it was taken during Freshman year. But that is no longer true.

Hmm... OK, I'll make a little trip to the GC on monday and get this sorted out.
The reason why I ask is because Honors precal is the course that can either add to or screw my current GPA, and I definitely don't want to get it shafted another .1 points lower because of this.

OK, took a trip to my GC yesterday, and after a lengthy discussion with the other GCs....... she tells me to list Precal honors as (HL) anyway, and AP Calculus BC as (AP).... is it OK to override what is shown on the a-g list?

PM: I'd follow your GC's recommendation, but, just to confirm, I'd also call the adcom or e-mail ucop.....an old e-mail I have is glenda.gentry@ucop.edu.

Best of luck to you.
