Help with Junior Year Sch.

So it's that time of the year again for us. We don't have to finalize for a while but the sooner the better.

Right now, I've come up with these classes.

AP Lang. & Lit.
APUSH
AP Science (Chem, environmental sci, or physics hon)
AP Math (Calculus? Pre-Calc?)
Spanish 4

Electives
Computer Ventures
SAT Prep

The only class that I'm worried about is Spanish. I'm really bad at spanish and it's really holding down my overall average. But I should take 4 years, correct (highly selective college)? Or would 3 be good enough? I took 2 years in middle school which I think count as one year and I took spanish in both the 9th and 10th grade. Should I just not take Spanish 4 and take French I junior year and French II senior?

Also, would it be a good idea to skip Pre-calc? I'm not 100% sure if the school would allow me in the first place (hence I'm meeting with guidance on Monday) though. But assumming they will, I rather go straight to Calculus since I've heard that Pre-calc is mostly review and such. I'm currently in Algebra 2 Hon with an A average.

Also, since I don't have enough room for additional classes, I was considering doing AP Statistics over the summer (or self study?). Would doing so be difficult? I'm assumming I just have to take the AP exam next year if I do, correct?

thanks & cheers :)

bump ^? I'm going to guidance tomorrow now ...

Pre-calc is review? That really surprises me. Precalc H in my school is second to AP Physics in difficulty [according to my school newpaper, anyway].

We've done tons of stuff. I'm getting an A+, but I would never venture to say that it's an easy class. I suppose it's self-learnable, but I'd be very careful with it.

I think colleges like to see three years IN HIGHSCHOOL. I took Spanish in middle school too but I'm still going to take it Junior Year (which will be Spanish III cause my school didn't want to advance me even though...ah well...)

Pre Calc is considered really hard in my school as well, second to probably AP Calc. Only really good students even get into the class, I'd reccomend taking it but maybe it's different at your school.

^^^ ya it isn't an easy class. Its a real eye opener for some people. The average grade is a C :(

^^^ Yeah I think it was pre-calc that I heard some ridiculous statistic like that everyone was failing or no one had an A, either that or Pre Calc.

Speaking of junior schedules I'm going to stick in my own question for advice, hope you don't mind. I have my schedule pretty much set except for an elective. I could either take Advanced Instrumental. That would mean I'd have to pratice a whole lot and carry my violin around, on the other hand I like playing and the teacher reccomended me so I doubt it would bring down my GPA too much. Or I could take another elective which I've narrowed to Journalism, Socialogy, Creative Writing, and Forsenics. All which sound interesting but I will already be taking two periods of Chem and AP English, so another science or english class might be a bit much. But those would be less likely to mess up my GPA. What do you guys think?

I talked to my spanish teacher today and she said that I should take spanish 4 and leave it at that because they can count my 2 years in middle school as 1 year in HS resulting in 4 total years.

also, regrading pre-calc, I talked to the math head and she said it's "not recommended" :/ But she did say that if I really wanted to, I should find a course during the summer and do it.

i really would not recommend skipping precalc. one of my friends who did that is struggling in calc (i think C average), not to mention that precalc is not easy. i'm not a math person, but i cruised through adv. algebra II (96-98 average) and i'm getting borderline in precalc right now. unless you're really self-motivated and determined, not something i would recommend. plus, if you want to take math IIC, that has precalc and trig. i guess you can take that in october, but the class always helps.

alright, I've decided that I'll take Pre-calc junior year and regular AP calc senior year.

As of now, I have around 4 or 5 AP courses. Is that too much? I'm up to the challenge but I don't want to go thru a million "all-nighters"..

Take AP Chem for science, I would also take precalc, because just jumping into calc without, might be a mistake. Take only AP Lit or Lang not both, then take the other next year.

You are lucky! I wish I could take an SAT prep course during regular school hours.
