Hey everybody I have a couple of questions about writing my letter of intent. A little background info about me: I graduated with a BS in EET that is not ABET accredited (my fault for not doing research about that) and my CGPA is 3.2. When I was a Senior I had a choice of either doing a research project or internship. I chose the senior project because my plans are to continue onto an MS. My project was a wireless remote mobile robotic arm, looks like the rover that was sent to Mars. Anyways...I have my 3 letters of recommendation, but have not taken the GRE yet. When looking at public universities I did not realize that U of H had different MS programs in Technology. When looking at their admission policies they did mention that they do consider non ABET applications, case by case basis. When working on my senior project it got me interested in embedded hardware/software sytems, and circuit board design. U of H offers an MS in CET that focuses on embedded systems. I do have a good knowlege of electronics/circuits and R&D from my project, but not embedded systems. I also do not have any internship experience.
So does anybody have any advice on what I should focus on for my Letter of Intent? First, I know part of the letter has to be why Im choosing U of H blah blah blah. To be honest Id love to continue with my robot project and possibly be able to publish a paper in the end. Ive been doing some research on the net about writing different types of thesis and they seem to be very specific. For example, I think a thesis on my robotic project would be to broad. I would have to be more specific like the microcontroller I used/embedded system and how it can help in the robotic industry. I feel that a good Letter of Intent and good GRE scores will help me because of the non ABET degree I have.
Besides the why Im choosing U of H does anybody have any other advice?
Thanks.

Hey everybody Ive been on the net to get some ideas on how to construct my Letter of Intent. I also like the post Gradaute School Admissions 101 for some info. Like I mentioned before I do not have any internship experience in my degree field. I found openings on the web but they all said I have to be currently enrolled student. On a positive note after I graduated I did two career day presentations; one for a high school and another for a community college. I did keep the contact info for the person that was in charge of that. Last time I worked was back in 2005 because Im a disabled vet, thats why I went to school full time. Im wondering if I should be personal and mention that. My reason for the program I chose for my BS and applying for the MS is to get into the medical field, specificaly medical devices. I do have one question…what is it called when you spend a day at a company?. I think I follow a mentor around for a day to get a feel for the career I want to get into.
