Help with Major?

I don’t know if this is the right thread, but here goes.

I don’t know what I am going to major in yet, and my interests/hobbies don’t necessarily align with one particular major.
I like Math and Science, but lean a little towards the math side.

Some majors I am looking at right now are: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics. I have interest in all of them and it is very tough for me to decide. How are the job markets for them in the coming future? My dad is very against EE/CS as he thinks the demand for them is dying due to the superfluous # of people majoring in them. Is that true?

Also I was thinking about possibly becoming a professor, what kinds of majors are more desirable right now for college professors? These may or may not include the majors I am already interested in.

So basically, I am asking for some possible suggestions on what major I should pursue in the future.

Thanks everyone!

There are lots of great majors. It’s all about “fit”. Tell us more about which math subjects appeal to you.

@colorado_mom I am currently taking Calculus and I find it pretty enjoyable. AP Statistics also seem fine if that’s what you’re asking for.

I believe you should look at what the Bureau of Labor Statistics people (whose profession is the analysis of job prospects in different occupations) say (at http://www.bls.gov/emp/ep_table_102.htm ). They say computer science, particularly software developing, is great and electrical engineering is not so good (but civil, environmental and petroleum engineering are good) for the years between now and 2022.

My daughter also likes math, was going to major in Math. But she found Computer Science just right because frankly it too has a lot of math classes.
She just took a class that math oriented that she’s thoroughly enjoyed as an upper division class.
I think your dad is wrong, as other friends of kid #1, one dad scared her off computer science because he was laid off back in the dot com bust. So the friends decided to study civil engineering. But fast forward, she graduated with a Computer Science degree and is now working at Google. I think it depends on the school but computer science has been a steady job. My brother studied CS for almost 35 years and is now doing coding, I mean real work. While I study EE and now doing project management(even I have to admit it’s a slacker job). Furthermore, when my brother got laid off he was able to get contract job. There’s lot of flexibility in with this major.

What do you want to do? And what does your dad think you should study?
