Help with Math Courses

I am a rising junior that is scheduled to take PreCalc next year. However my math skills aren’t strong and my college counselor suggested that I take a developmental math class at my local community college. This class will benefit me immensely since I plan on taking PreCalc, Calc AB and Stats at the community college as well.
However, I was curious if colleges will frown upon me taking this developmental class since it is considered “below acheivement level”. Could anyone give me advice about what I should do?

um...why would they? if it benefits you take it....better to take help if you need it to get A than failing math classes

thanks alot for the advice! :)

I don't think it would reflect poorly. In fact, it could actually be indicative of your character. It may show that you took the initiative to strengthen an area you considered a weakness. If anything, it may show maturity.

Be sure to look into what the class offers. If its just more of the same, a review of the material thats already been covered in attempts to reinforce it one more time, the effect may be spotty. Some people need the second look, but for others their approach to the material is wrong and they'll just get more practice doing the wrong thing. So check and see if the class covers HOW to study the material. Studying math or science material is different than reading a history book, and different again from reading a novel.

Your willingness to improve is admirable. So taking the class can help. There is a book I'd also suggest that you get, and I recommend it to every student (weak or strong). Its called "What Smart Students Know" and it breaks down exactly how to read textbooks for different subjects, how to prepare for tests, etc. Written by a cofounder of the Princeton Review prep course, its simply the best book I've ever seen in explaining HOW to do well in school.

I agree with all of the above that it would show initiative. However, the colleges won't know that you did it unless you request the Comm College to send official transcripts to each college that you apply to. (However, on the college applications, it says that you need to have your transcripts sent from every high school and college that you have attended.)
