Help with math problem

Hi all.

I am trying to figure out this math problem but something just doesn't seem right. I searched for solutions; I found some, but I just didn't understand to process.

Please guide me. I know that every question must have some kind of trick.

Thank you so much for your help.
You really helped me a lot so far.

The answer is (E) 14
(equation 1) 3x + 7y = 12
(equation 2) 6x - ky = 6

First, we solve for x in equation 1 so we can plug it into equation 2.
3x + 7y = 12

-7y

3x = -7y + 12

(divide by 3 on both sides)

x= 7/3y + 4

Then, we plug that in for x in equation 2.

6(7/3y + 4) -ky = 6

which is distributed to…

14y + 24 - ky = 6

simplified to…

14y - ky = -18

To make this system have no solution, we need to substitute k for a value that will make the left side of the equation equal 0. So we use 14 --

14y - 14y = -18
0 ≠ 18

Therefore, no solution.
Hopefully this helped you, let me know if I made any mistake or if you need any clarification :)

Thank you.

Amazing. I got it!

This forum is amazing!!!

No, noocie, you have a sign error. Leaving it to OP to find it…

Ahh whoops :'D
Since OP got it,
x should be -7/3 + 4
so k = -14
hehe my bad :D
