Help with median questions!!

i nail every average question but the problem arises on a median one..

what is a median?
formulas?

THANKS

Median, is where you lay out the set of numbers in order (either lowest to biggest, or biggest to lowest), then find the middle number
example:
The Set: 3,6,7,3,5,8,5,4
First, put them in order
3,3,4,5,5,6,7,8
Then what I do, is cross out each pair of numbers on the outside
3,4,5,5,6,7
4,5,5,6,
5,5,
In this case, both 5, and 5 are the median
if there was an odd number of numbers in a set
example:
1,2,3,4,5
You take the middle
2,3,4
3
Make sense?

There can only be one median so in scott’s first example the median would be five, if you were left with two numbers that were different then you would find the average(arithmetic mean) between the two numbers.

Ex. 3,3,4,5,6,6,7,8

3,4,5,6,6,7
4,5,6,6
5,6

So the median equals 5.5

^
Oops, that’s right.
Thanks for clarifying, haven’t done this for a while!
