I am planning to include an Indian classical ‘geetham’, a soft Malayalam film song, maybe Vande Mataram? I don’t know what English songs I should sing, and I am going with ‘Unstoppable’ by the Score. I would like to sing ‘Let it Go’, but I guess it is not an ideal option for a boy to sing. Will my song choices affect my supplement? And also, I don’t haven’t learn the chords for any of the songs (I do know the chords for ‘Closer’, but I feel the song is too flat). So can I sing alone? I mean just my vocals only? Or should I add karaoke?
Musical supplements are not talent shows. No karaoke for one, and don’t choose a popular song. Most people submitting will have written their own songs or music. IMO if the music isn’t original, you shouldn’t submit it, no offense, but a lot of people can sing, so it doesn’t really make you stand out.
Unless your music is of extremely high quality (ex.conservstory level or close) I would not send any music supplement.
*conservatory level (sorry for typo)
Your music doesn’t have to be an original composition. But it does need to be conservatory level. If it’s not, don’t bother sending it. My kid is an oboe player and lets just say…she didn’t compose her own music…but she was top ranked in our state, and played quite well.
No karaoke…just no. I would not suggest a popular piece of music either. It’s just not going to improve your application to sing a Disney song…at all…or any other movie theme song.
I submitted it anyway. I sang 1 classical ( which I have training in), 1 regional song, national song, and 2 popular English songs(just to be sure) and believer electronic music cover.
No offense, but why would you ask for advice when you’re just going to ignore what you get? 3 different people told you not to submit for very valid reasons and you did anyway.
I’m assuming you spent more time though focusing on getting your essays as good as they could be, which will likely be much more important in admissions. Anyway, given the skepticism of posters in this thread, please do keep us updated on how you do!
