I've done so much research, and I am just completely confused as to where I'm going to apply to next fall. My GPA is 4.95, my PSAT was 205 (taking SAT next month), my class rank is 6/400. I'm a member of a bunch of clubs, including SGA and NHS. I'm captain of the golf team. I work part time. Anyway, I really need help forming a list of colleges to apply to. My intended major is either finance or statistics. I was thinking my reaches would be like Duke and Rice, my matches would be somewhat like UVA (OOS) and Emory, and my safes would be Florida (in-state) and Indiana University. Any input would be great! Thanks!!

I’m also going to need a lot of financial aid!

Those all sound fine, though Indiana out of state as a safety worries me if you need a lot of financial aid. Ditto for UVA, though for some reason I have it in my mind they do more aid than your average public.

Any chance for a golf scholarship at a D1 or D2 school? That would greatly expand your possibilities.

of those, Emory (maybe Rice) are the only teams I could make. Emory is DIII so no scholarships. Rice is D1, but it’d be a stretch for me to make it.

Also, my dad graduated from Indiana, my brother from UVA, and my sister from Georgetown. Someone told me that if you’re a legacy (IU), you pay in-state tuition? This sounds stupid, but it would be awesome if it were true.

advice - relax. you have a year to figure this out. research schools as you would, but you really don’t need to start creating a final list until next september. so enjoy your high school experience and stop worrying.

Coastal Carolina University (SC) for golf.

^^ out of curiosity, why would I even consider going there? It’s not good academically at all, and I wouldn’t give up a great education just to play golf.

I think you have a good grasp on this and I think the list of schools you have so far is an excellent start. I’d get in some visits this spring and any of the three day weekends that you have available, so you can get more clarity on what you like and don’t like. You also need to do a FAFSA forecaster and get a ball park for how much need based aid you are likely to be offered (Merit aid is a whole other animal). Is your 205 a qualifying PSAT score for NMSF in Florida?

If you haven’t already started, you need to prep for the SAT. Most of these schools have scores avg. of 2100+. Are you planning to take the March sitting? You need to start a prep asap if you haven’t already started. You are obviously an excellent applicant and have a good shot at these reaches if you can bring up your scores. You also need to choose a couple subject tests to take in the spring after AP exams. Good luck!
